Just checking what peoples experiences are with the cheaper sets of light wheels out there. Would be great to have a dry and wet set of TD's or ProTrack's etc. But cannot justify the cost frankly with 18 inch fairly wide wheels. Any cheaper sets of wheels people have used and find they cope fine with track abuse hitting a few kerbs? I know they're not going to be as strong as the proven brands but if they cope OK on track and are cheap to replace on the rare occasion then its definitely something to consider.

I use 18" 2forge ZF6 wheels on my race Cayman, Tegiwa are a good supplier.

They will take kerbs etc ok but they do bend if given a decent hit.

That said, when a set of wheels are cheaper than a set of tyres you need realistic expectations…….

Out of my budget especially for 2 sets. Maybe I ought to just sacrifice the unsprung mass and use heavy oem wheels until its a justified upgrade..

I can't find the thread now, but there was a readers cars thread where the owner was building a traxk spec MX5. He weighed various wheels and found that good steels were only 1kg heaver than TD and OZ.

There are more like 15inch usually, but a lot of the Westfield boys are using the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 (multispoke) or Pro Race 2 (5 spoke) from Rimstock or Halfords.

You would have to rummage around on the WSCC forums but there are threads on wheels and various comparative wheels, Compomotive etc. But also various brands of steel wheels which as said, can get within range of a reasonably light alloy wheel and are often cheaper and more forgiving.
