MOT Test with Track Car?
Discussion
Might be one for the 'ask an MoT tester' thread
The rules are rather vague, but the gist seems to be if the car is deemed 'extensively modified' ( https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-... section 13 ), various exemptions are allowed. However, 'minor modifications' are not exempt. Clear as mud!
I think the answer is, find a friendly MoT tester!

So if the car had the airbags and original wheel and seat back in for the MOT it should be ok with the interior removed?
Yes that's fine, as long as the airbag system does the self-test and the light then goes out (not indicating a fault) it'll pass.If you remove airbags that's when you have an issue, I just keep the original wheel on the shelf and refit for MOT time.
My track car has the interior stripped, with only upper dash and original front seats remaining. All (eleven!) airbags have been removed, as well as an OMP wheel fitted.
As well as making sure the airbag light is not illuminated, I also took care to refit the dashboard airbag cover, so at least if looks like it might be there, but the remaining airbags are clearly missing.
MOT tester had no problem with it, as they judged that overall, car had been modified safely, I suppose.

Not quite 11 airbags, but everything removed apart from top part of dash. A full weld in multipoint cage, buckets, 5 point harnesses, etc (amusing watching the MOT man trying to get in and out).
In short, removed the bulbs for the warning lights on the dash for bits that have been removed (easy with an e36) and all is good with Mot mandir several years now.
The only Pita is having to swap exhaust systems from Down pipe for MOT as he won't pass it with the straight through system so the OEM has to go on for 2hrs then come back off again lol.
