Track days abroad with a trailer?
Discussion
this is quite a difficult thing to google around quickly and find info for....
i have a dream of taking my radical to some of the F1 tracks .. magny cour, spa etc..
its not road legal and i trailer it around.
is it quite straightforward to tow a trailer around carrying a race car from UK to continental europe or are there crazy fees and issues to think of?

Not simple like it was pre Brexit. Really you need a carnet for the car & all spares & tools.
Are folks who haven't done it & had no probs & are those who've had major issues & fines, so your choice on that.
That makes it sound a bit 50/50, the vast majority of examples I’ve heard (involving people taking their own cars over for non-commercial use) have had no issues without a carnet. Are folks who haven't done it & had no probs & are those who've had major issues & fines, so your choice on that.
I’ve done it twice so far with a V5 and insurance for the car on the trailer and booking details for the event I was headed for, no questions asked on either occasion.

Certainly more have been OK than had issues & I'm out & back almost weekly & v rare to be stopped, which is a pain when you've spent over £500 on a carnet & last one I did delayed me 5 hrs with stamping faff & you think why bother!I’ve done it twice so far with a V5 and insurance for the car on the trailer and booking details for the event I was headed for, no questions asked on either occasion.
Far less likely to be stopped with an enclosed trailer too.
However are even folks with car on trailer & v5 in their name who've had issues & fines or denied crossings, let alone un reg racers with issues
But try Hull to Holland crossing with a racer no v5 & spare wheels & tools etc & no carnet or customs clearance, temporary import etc, could be an expensive decision.

I suspect having a carnet puts you on the radar to be checked but it’s obviously always a risk to go without. Far less likely to be stopped with an enclosed trailer too.

My experience so far has been on an open trailer with a liveried car on the back showing sponsors etc and tyres on the rack. Towing with an old and slightly tatty looking van probably helps .
I had also heard that Hull crossings were being stricter.
