Michelin Cup 2 tires effectiveness over time
Discussion
Totally depends on the car.
I have Cup2s on my 2019 Exige and they continue to impress me after 16k miles and over 30 trackdays...... on the same set. But, on a much heavier car I'd guess a few hard days work and they'd either be toast or past their best due to the heat. Weight is the big factor as that is what will generate the heat needed to cause wear / degradation.
For road use, being past their trackday best is no big deal as they're not going to get warm enough to test them..... assuming they still have legal tread.

I destroyed a pair today in 6 laps of Bedford GT split over two stints in my GolfR
Alignment was recently done .. hot tyre pressures were set, tyres warmed up slowly, centre strip of tread literally stripped off the tyre…outer and inner were ok..
They had 6mm tread at the beginning of the day, road miles only till today …
Maybe a rogue pair… or maybe something wrong with alignment.. done at Halfords…..
Anyone else had a bad experience?

Overdriven? Were you sliding about on them all day, understeering in the corners? Cup2 should easily handle the weight of a Golf RAlignment was recently done .. hot tyre pressures were set, tyres warmed up slowly, centre strip of tread literally stripped off the tyre…outer and inner were ok..

Suspect a lot of mashing the pedal to the floor and sliding/squirming around causing excess heat.Alignment was recently done .. hot tyre pressures were set, tyres warmed up slowly, centre strip of tread literally stripped off the tyre…outer and inner were ok..

Could also be incorrect pressures due to the above causing premature failure.
Definitely useful to know the car.
Can only say that IME, on a 911, they tend to harden with age/heat cycles and feel past their best at 50% worn.
Also, with any tyre, age and UV will deteriorate them. There is a reason why heavier vehicles cannot pass MOT periodic tests tyres over 10 years old on front axles.
Beyond that st geo, incorrect pressures (which includes not dropping them on track) and driving technique will all reduce lifespan.
