Bought a new car last year - 2002 Lotus Elise, and plan to get on track over the next few months.

Done a few days previously in a variety of 3 grand MX-5s etc unto which I'd have no issue fitting wings and bumpers from a scrapyard however the nature of the Lotus and its fibreglass body means I'm not happy using it without insurance.

Can anyone give me some examples of what they have paid (and with whom) for 1-off trackday insurance policies?

Renewal time soon, I would like to weigh up whether its worth paying for a specialist annual road policy that includes trackdays, or do i just continue with the dirt cheap (>£200) 'regular' insurance easily available to me through the usual routes and buy a specific policy on top of my £150 for a day at Blyton park etc.

Car is worth 18-20k, I'll only do 2 or 3 days if I'm lucky maybe. Blyton, maybe Cadwell, Croft.

No need to guess, just run a quick quote on the websites of places like:
  • MORIS (https://trackday.moris.co.uk)
  • REIS (https://reis.co.uk/our-products/track-day-insurance/)
  • InsureMyTrackday (https://www.insuremytrackday.com)

I've insured my £10,000 Megane RS250 for 5 trackdays within 12 months with MORIS for just over £200 which seemed very reasonable.
The excess is quite big but think it would be an easy car to write off with a minor bump if airbags start going off!
Compared to previous Clios and Westfields where much of the value was in the parts.

I insure my McLaren 720s with Classic Line, it's £1750 a year. It includes 5 trackdays and anymore are £56 a day. It's got a 10% excess for any claims on track.

I have zero no claims, and obviously the value of the car is high. To put it in to perspective though, the cheapest general quote I could get without trackday cover was £2260 so not only is it cheaper than the next cheapest quote, it also includes trackday cover.

It's definitely worth ringing around and seeing if you can get an annual policy with cover included for a similar price as one without cover.

I've paid £70-90 for single track day cover previously on sub £10k Renaultsports for UK and Spa track days through MORIS/REIS as it allowed me to add a second driver. I think excess is around 10% of the car's value.

I'm with Greenlight for my road policy and can pay a bolt on of £65 (or at least it was last time I asked) per UK track day, or can pay £150 which I think covers five.

Worth seeing if Footman James will cover you – when I built my Caterham 270R I paid £150(!) for my road policy and while I never took it on track, I think that might have even included some track cover or at least the opportunity to bolt it on.
