Suspension for 987 Boxster
Discussion
Hi everyone, I just picked up a 987 Boxster which I would like to use for some track days. Does anyone have any suggestions as to some good suspension and brakes please? I can see plenty of options available but keen to get something that will work well both on the track and road. I mainly go to Bedford but will try some other tracks as Wells
Many thanks for any suggestions.

This stuff obviously all depends on your budget but well worth considering Tractive suspension, I have their 3 way adjustables on my 718 race car but they also do electronically adjustables which are ideal for road/track use because you can change settings at the press of a button.
Also worth talking to https://centergravity.co.uk/ about setup and geo, there’s a lot of important details that can make a big difference to how the car handles and feels.

Bilstein pss9 a good road/track compromise & under budget, the Ohlins road & track set up gets good reports but is a tad more £ or for a firmer road but better track set up I'd ook at kw Clubsports.
Good geo doing & you'll want more front camber, centre gravity can advise.
Brakes just rs29s & new fluid & see how you get on.

I have done a few TD’s with my 987.1 S.
Running Ferodo DS2500 pads which work very well.
Have the PASM fitted which works really well. Just a thought, can the PASM units be fitted retrospectively?
I renewed a front unit last year and it was very reasonable.
I have a spare set of wheels with Toyo Triple 8’s fitted.
Tyres, pads and the PASM, I don’t feel that anything else is needed. Oh, press in the sport button for a torquier bottom end and a little more noise.
Felt spectacular at Combe and Caldwell last year.

I have a 987.1 2.7 litre but currently using a Megane RS250 for trackdays.
I have wondered about tracking the Boxster but put off by suggestions that the oil pickups in the sump aren't adequate for hard track driving (not sure my track driving would be considered hard!). This is reinforced in the manual which advises against track driving with semi-slicks to avoid oil pickup problems.
Is this Porsche just being cautious or is it really an issue?

I didn’t realise it mentions that in the manual.
I have tracked mine twice with semi slick tyres making sure that I am not driving it to the limit engine wise. I believe it is at its most vulnerable on long fast left-handers. Keep that in mind and be sensible and I’m sure you won’t have a problem.
I did some research on this and there are many people who track a box standard Boxster.
By the way, they are brilliant on track. You will have a hoot!

Most circuits are right handed.....which works in your favourI have tracked mine twice with semi slick tyres making sure that I am not driving it to the limit engine wise. Oulton Park is right handed (clockwise), as are Castle Combe, Brands Hatch, Trac Mon, Croft, Thruxton and Donington.
I actually cannot think of an anti-clockwise track in the UK.
Of course the Nurburgring is anti clockwise, but is has 153 corners anyway, so a fair few of them will be left handers

Not sure if this is relevant.

Brilliant day on sticky tyres. Mostly right handers and none are long. Car has plenty of power to change up and drop the revs if you have negative thoughts regarding corners, (which is what I do).
There is a very fast, (about 90mph for me but QBee takes it a touch faster!) left hander at the end of the back straight. You are backing off the throttle, tipping in and just holding it for a couple of seconds before flicking it right.

There is a very fast, (about 90mph for me but QBee takes it at 105 mph in his TVR) left hander at the end of the back straight. You are backing off the throttle, tipping in and just holding it for a couple of seconds before flicking it right.
Revised that for you https://youtu.be/MsXWB3V7YyI

I'm fitted M030 Bilstein suspension to my car, it's the Porsche standard suspension upgrade and it works well on track with some H&R anti roll bars. Also very useable on road too if you are happy with a firmer ride.
Their are various sump baffles you can buy (for example the X51 baffled sump from Porsche - easy to fit, too) which help with oil surge but just make sure your oil is well topped up and you'll be fine assuming you're not Lewis Hamilton on track!

Are you sure? If so, there are lots of pictures of me driving the wrong way!I actually cannot think of an anti-clockwise track in the UK.
