Hi guys, here’s a link to an article I have done on a website we have launched.
Please have a look as I was at spa yesterday so took photos of the work under progress.
Obviously if you are attending any trackdays or racing there this season it may be interesting.

Thanks for posting, I didn’t know this was going on.

The last photo in your post - where is that?

We finally got out on track this week with Circuit Days and I can confirm that Eau Rouge is in pretty much the same place but with new tarmac and it looks very different because of how they have opened it all up at the sides.

I’m sure Roy (Doogalman) will add proper detail to this when he gets chance.

In the meantime for anyone that hasn’t been to Spa yet, you really can’t understand how steep that section is until you see it in the flesh but here’s a taste to give you an idea -

I hear the bump on the inside of No Name has been smoothed out?

Yes but new tarmac and the kerb wasn’t finished so hard to judge for me (not a regular at Spa by any means).

Yes the bump has gone. The new surface has taken care of that.
Other points of interest. With the new surfaces in various places gone also are visual cues from ingrained rubber and scratch marks that used to be prominent on the old surface.
Eau rouge/Raidillon is the route as it was. But it is opened out safety wise which I’m sure many wayward drivers will find a bonus. The new surface there has much grip as you’d expect.
If wet there is still the very slight dip on exit of campus.
Also if wet the grip at the new surfaces is slightly less at the moment as there is still some residual oil from the resurfacing.
As for the gravel traps, I was there sat and sun, in addition to Thursday and Friday when we were with circuit days. Over the weekend there was a fair few offs due to the type of event that was on. On reflection the gravel traps stopped a good number of cars finding the barriers.
On the whole it is still the great track that it was, if anything it is better !
A gratuitous pic of what I was instructing in Saturday and Sunday….
