Tyre pressures on track days
Discussion
I run mine at round about road pressure, more in grippier conditions and if the tread is worn, less in more slippery conditions or when I have more tread. This often means I have to let air out during the day and then pump the tyres back up after they have cooled down. Whatever pressure you run at, it is important to keep an eye on tyres and brakes during the day.
your chim tyres will gain 6-8psi over a session if worked hard. if you've already put 10% over, you will be at 30+psi during your session. seriously over inflated and making the car VERY skittish!
as pete says a couple of lb over (road tyre std walls ie goodyear/bridgie etc) watched during the day and with the prssure maintained as the tyre heats will give you good grip all day and also substantially increase longevity as the tyre won't be sliding anywhere near as much.
track photographers are a good source of info. look at the car, tyres etc and see how its behaving.
make sure you reset pressure before the ride home, as the tyre cools on the M-way you could go back down to 16psi!!
you up for the Monster then?
hows the chim...better now?

Thanks guys - very useful stuff.
Andy, yes I think I will attend Monster but will see how my diary pans out in the next couple of weeks. Car not yet fully repaired/sorted from the Magny Cours trip although performed well at Oulton today - no new problems. Think it's getting time for another rebuild although will probably eave it a couple of months until the season starts to go quiet.
Cheers
