Hi all,

So I recently bought an rs275 trophy, lightly modded (intercooler, cat back, some otherr bits 305hp 355lbft)

And I love it, I can't believe how precise the steering is.

I have a clio 182 which has various bits done for track days, it's stripped, pms shifter, whiteline are, 15 inch ozs top mounts strutbrace etc...the next mod will be a cage.

However I'm already thinking i wish I had a megane track car

I don't really want to take the trophy on track because its too nice.

I'm starting to think about binning the clio, I also ha e a z4 coupe to sell, and the buying a 250 cup to track. Either a prepped one, or a cheap one that i prep myself

Am I being an idiot considering having 2 x meganes, 1 for the track and 1 for the daily drive?

The trophy seems too nice for track (I think it has been tracked previously to be fair tho).

A mate of mine has a Mk3 Megane 250 as a track car, I'm not entirely sure on what modifications it has but I know it's on coilovers, bigger intercooler, remap, stripped, bucket seats, so the usual stuff.

It's a phenomenal piece of kit on track, goes really well and he's far from the best driver out there and he seems to pass most things on the average track day so on that basis it's well worth doing.

As for if two Megane's is too much, that's a personal thing really, I try to have different cars for road and track but I don't see anything wrong with having the same, I swap my track cars every 18 months or so as I buy cheap and like to experience different things

I would just track your Trophy, if you're worried about it being too nice you could always get some PPF applied which is going to cost a lot less than running two cars.

My old 250 had some basic mods like yours – intercooler, induction kit and exhaust with 321bhp/360ft lb. It had stock Cup suspension with H&R springs and I probably did 4-5 track days in the year I had it, never once felt like I needed coilovers and had no issues keeping pace with a gaggle of Cayman GT4s at Spa.

I'm aiming to do some more track days in my 275 Cup-S this year, can't wait smile

I've had 3 x Meg 250 Cup's and would have another. They are mega on track, and for the money they are a total performance bargain.

As pointed out, it is totally subjective whether having 2 is too many/pointless. As with anything, once you lean more towards a more focussed track spec, you ruin the road experience.

Rough spec of my last one was; Wagner FMIC, scorpion decat, DIY intake, mapped by EFI and ran 313bhp/350lb ft. Stock Cup suspension (refreshed) with Grams springs, CL pads/braided lines/RBF fluid, AR1's or AD08R. It held it's own against much more expensive machinery on track and really was a bit of a surprise how good it was.

Probably the sweet spot for these as a do it all car. On quality coilovers these can be seriously quick cars.

As much as I love them, I would be tempted to sell the 275 and the Clio, buy a mega spec Megane was track and keep the Z4M for road.

Use your Megane on track and you'll soon realise they don't need all of the extra bits that you've thrown at the Clio, it's a great car to drive to the track, hammer round all day and then drive back home in relative comfort.

Tricky one. As others have said, going all in in on an aggressive track setup will ruin the road driving experience.

I had a 250 cup with remap and lowering springs. Found it fun but a little frustrating when pushing on track as ideally it need more negative camber and better brake pads etc.

If I had the money, keep the trophy (they will only go up in value imo, particularly relatively standard ones) as is and buy a track prepped one. There are some modified bargains out there with all the right bits.

Check out performance only cars if you haven’t already.

I am constantly on performanceonly but I feel like nowadays rather than listings of cars for sale, its just a list of cars that have already sold 🤣🤣

I was going to drop Alex a message to suggest the spec I am after and then he can give me a headsup/source one but I don't want to waste his time till im decided.

however I am like the biggest flip flop on this stuff. I spent the last week going through threads of track prepared Z4 Coupes and thought maybe I should spend the money creating a RWD track car with that.

I did do some research on trackday insurance and found it is WAY cheaper than I had thought so that makes me more interested to take the Megane on track.

Ill probably decide I want to try rallycross next week

My Megane is insured through Greenlight – I can pay £150 as a bolt on for I think five UK track days in a year or it's £60/65 per track day. I paid around £80 through MORIS/REIS when I took my old Megane out to Spa.

I hope you don’t mind me saying, but whenever I see your posts I wonder why you don’t track the Z4M / nicer cars. Particularly where you are talking about the Clio. Plenty of very nice cars see track action and I think PPF and good insurance would go a long way.

Not at all tommie, I often think the same!

The Z4 Coupe is only a 3.0si not an M (I had an M previously though)

I am increasingly thinking about tracking my Megane. However on the incredibly flat and safe track that is Abingdon Airfield I managed to hit the very edge of a cone on the fast chicane which must have bent it forcefully inwards to hit the rear quarter of my clio to create a very sizeable dent. I'm not that keen on damaging the Megane!?

Absolutely smashed my brakes at Donington in the Megane. But I can concur the pace of the Megane is exceptional, considering its a FWD hatch.
