Well i now know why nobody appeared to be going to Silverstone today...
Silverstone cancelled the event, but didnt bother to tell me and at least one other chap who had driven miles to be there! Neither did they bother to respond to my two previous emails requesting event details before today.
Thanks Silverstone... quality customer service!

To update the thread...
Silverstone customer services have addressed the issue for me, refunded today's fees and offered what i deem to be suitable compensation for my financial loss and general hassle.
The chap was genuinely sorry for the mix up and went out of his way to try and make up for their mistake. Hopefully events next year will be in good hands from a customer service point of view. Whether that translates to good days on track is another question. High numbers on track are always likely to be a problem on the GP circuit (i believe that organisers can run max 60 cars on track). To be honest, i found that Javelin's numbers on track were annoyingly high for Silverstone GP earlier this year.

I did two TD's on the GP circuit - one Javelin and one Silverstone run - neither was an issue even with the really high demand and selling out of nearly all TD's this year.
I don't think it will be an issue with Silverstone running TD's next year - they do it for bikes already and I'm told it's fine.
GP circuit isn't the cheapest, but it's a nice long lap to enjoy compared to Brands etc. Hopefully they will make use of the International and National formats also giving us more choice and availability of track time.

I've done a few late year GP days, last 2 with Circuit days and was loads of room, however this was a few years back.
This vid was towards the end of the day and only 1 lap, but as you can see by the lap times, I wasnt finding much in way of traffic before this either.
