Oulton Park 19th August "Road Car only day"
Discussion
I went to the last road car only trackday they did at Oulton Park. It was great. Probably the most laid back trackday I’ve ever been on. No trailers, no egos. Oh and not a single red flag all day!
There were still caged cars there and an Atom which I thought wasn’t allowed but I think they just care about the noise level as Thursdays are quiet days else they’re in trouble with the council.
I’d definitely do another. Might go to this one if the weathers nice.
I was worried about noise. Turns out my decated K24 Civic only blows 82db on static. Well within limits. If you pass static chances are you’ll pass drive by unless itb’s or screamer pipe.

I think as long as it's road legal they're okay with it? No trailers, so I guess the chap in the Atom must have driven it there? Though I do have a half cage.
I do love a good laid back track day, so glad to hear it, I'm rather hoping the numbers stay in the 20's... I was at Silverstone just recently and while it was nice to see a 917 it was a something you had to be rather aware of when sharing the track with it!
I managed 96.2 DbA Static with my Amazon special DB meter, and that was with the exhaust valves open, so fingers crossed.

I was just surprised by some of the metal there. This is the small print of the day but I don’t think they really care if you drive there and pass noise lol
For clarity, on these events we exclude "Race Cars" that use one or more of the following:
Motorsport wets and slick tyres
Race numbers/number boards
Eternal electrical cut-offs
External extinguisher pulls
Replacement plastic windows
Customer sign-on using a competition licence
Road legal Radicals and similar vehicles are not permitted.
Honestly it’ll be a great day. Might see you there if I decide to book.If you see a dark blue civic eg come say hello

That’s interesting. I was curious about what sort of cars would turn up, I had assumed it would be an assortment of less track orientated stuff? I guess we shall see! I know my friends in GT3s wouldn’t pass the static, for example.
They’re really only bothered about selling spaces and sticking to the noise regs I’d guess.
Likewise, if you do book on and see a bright yellow GT4 in the garages come say hi!

Yeah it’s a long way from a 1.5 non VTEC single cam that it started life as lol
K24 bottom end
K20a2 head
All the usual bolt ons
It’s all Integra DC2 underneath.
Antiroll bars, subframe, steering rack, brakes, hubs.
Fully polybushed and track set up by Motion Motorsport
Yellow speed coil overs (Taiwanese specials)
Currently transitioning from AR1 to MRF ZTR so have a mix of them on the car at the moment. Only 195/50/15.
It’s supposed to look pretty plain from the outside. Sort of “sleeper” but tbh it’s gone pretty horrific on the road ride wise lol
Fun little car.
Full weight car. 1040kgs with full tank of fuel.
Probably still not enough to be chopping a GT4 lol

I was thinking about this one. I have a couple of friends taking their GT4s so you will have plenty of friends!
I recon you are going to be marginal on drive by. Hopefully worst case they give you a warning and you can short shift near the meter! Try and look for the location of the meters on the sighting laps.

The microphone is top of clay hill I’m told. Bloody common as muck these GT4s eh? are they 718s or 981s? I don’t think the 981s would pass noise.
Have you got your 992 GT3 yet? Think it would get by the limit?

Yeah I’m just not sure what the crack is with COVID and having passenger rides with people outside there bubble etc. I can’t keep up with what’s happening, especially living in Wales lol.
I guess it’s all business as usual in England.
Bubbles are still a thing in Wales? I’ll be honest I’m not keeping up with it. If you take a test the morning of the day I don’t mind giving you a few passenger laps anyway Yeah I’m just not sure what the crack is with COVID and having passenger rides with people outside there bubble etc. I can’t keep up with what’s happening, especially living in Wales lol.

I only live 20 mins away from Oulton so will be popping over for a nosey on the day, not out on the track unfortunately as have just done Goodwood this week. I’ll be parked up in a Clio cup with my daughter (trying to maintain her interest so she can come driving with me in a few years :-) ) hope you all have a great day

Interesting - I find road cars to have more ego's trying to show how fast they are.... just like everything, there is good and bad driving in both types. There were still caged cars there and an Atom which I thought wasn’t allowed but I think they just care about the noise level as Thursdays are quiet days else they’re in trouble with the council.

The ‘quiet Thursday’ events are still new so I doubt you’ll get more than one warning. Nobody wants to send you home though. An Impreza had a screamer next to me on the last one. He was warned early on, short shifted at a few places rest of day.
A month or so ago people were fighting in the pits on a Donington evening event lol.

Depends on the day I suppose. Like you say good and bad in all sorts of cars. Some think there is a trophy at the end of a trackday lol.A month or so ago people were fighting in the pits on a Donington evening event lol.

No chance the 992 would pass. It’s very loud!
