First track day questions
Discussion
Hi All,
I've got my first track day booked in Sept and had a couple questions not answered in the sticky guide. Hoping someone can help, thanks in advance!
1. Is there any specification for what helmets can be used? Will I be okay with one of my motorcycle helmets or should I look at buying/renting a new one?
2. Will any checks be done on my car other than exhaust volume? I've got a stock, old and slightly rusty NA MX5 which may or may not have an MOT on the day.
The day is at Anglesey

generally any motorcycle helmet is fine. they dont allow motorcross or mountain bike helmets though.
some track day organisers stipulate that a full face helmet with a visor is needed for any open topped car, so check that you have them too.
generally, the only part of a car that is checked is the noise from the exhaust. that said, most TDOs say a car needs to be roadworthy, not leaking any fluids, and not dangerous. you dont have to have an MOT (obviously racecars dont have MOTs, but are fine for trackdays) but any roadcar should be able to pass an MOT.

It's a fun circuit, I hope you enjoy it. Here's me, coming down the corkscrew.....
That track really suited my car, the only things faster that day were a GT3 RS Porsche and a Mercedes AMG GT
It was either before the change of helmet rules, or Anglesey didn't require full face helmets, I cannot remember which. All MSV circuits do, which is half he circuits in the country, and full face is safer in an open topped car.

MSV started it, and they own 5 or 6 of the main track day tracks (Brands Hatch, Bedford Autodrome, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park, Snetterton and I think Donington).
It started because someone driving a Caterham or similar was following a Fiesta or similar when the Fiesta's engine blew up spectacularly.....showering the Caterham driver's face in very hot oil.
