MSVT Brands Hatch Novice Track Day

Hi,
I booked on the Track Academy package on the 19th July i.e. an instructor for the day with 6 x 20 minutes sessions - 1 session each hour. I did an afternoon at PEC Silverstone last year. Had the Boxster serviced in June at an OPC, bought a helmet, watched a few Driver 61/Brands Hatch Indy guides. For me, it's a bit of fun and an opportunity to learn something. I'm not looking to be the Mansell, I think that ship sailed a long time ago. Anything else I should be taking with me? Wondering is there a mount to attach my iPhone to record my laps...

I'd throw together a basic tool pack consisting of:
- Litre of oil
- Tyre pressure gauge
- 12v pump
- Breaker bar & wheel nut socket
Check all fluids, tyres and pads before you go. Empty the car of loose items.
Also take plenty of water and keep hydrated throughout the day. Most of all just enjoy it and don't worry about lap times of keeping up with other people.

I'll grab some water & snacks, bottle of oil & coolant, funnel, tyre pressure gauge, kitchen towels. OPC said I can bring in the car a week before the track day for a free check. I sorted out some insurance via Moris, helmet has arrived. To be honest, I'm not stupid, I know my limits and for me it a bit of safe fun, hence the instructor. The instructor is there to keep me safe as his risk assessment of my driving and other drivers will be much better than mine...
Always a good tip for first timers that I was grateful to receive here years ago - don't use your handbrake when parking the car after a session.
Because the brakes are hot after a session there is a risk the brake pads can bind if you use the handbrake. Maybe that doesn't apply to all handbrake designs, however.

I'd take a torque wrench to check that wheels nuts aren't coming loose. Apart from that, just fluids for you and the car.
Then when you've done your first session you'll be shopping for track tyres, uprated pads, bucket seats, harness and roll cages.
Hahaha, I'd be lying if I said the thought never entered my mind. I'm just saying that I don't want to be a guy with the best car on track with the worst skills. When I become a bit handy then and only then some alloys with something like Pilot Sport Cup 2s, braided lines, pads & Motul brake fluidThen when you've done your first session you'll be shopping for track tyres, uprated pads, bucket seats, harness and roll cages.

TBH honest I'm not against that at all because track-days and instructors are expensive. You want to be learning and not worrying about the brakes or tyres overheating. I will see how it and I gets on and then change what's need...I did the first TD in my Boxster a few weeks ago at Combe, (done plenty of TD's in other cars and still do).
I know Brands well and you will love it in the Boxster.
I changed my oil to Mobil 1, 10-50 for a bit more substance when hot. Changed brake fluid for high temp fluid, pads are Brembo road pads otherwise everything else standard.
Car performed effortlessly and drove like it was made for the track.
Not sure of your spec, mine has adjustable suspension. Tried hard and road settings, not much difference on a smooth surface so your's will be composed when you press on.
Brands has a good food outlet.
Just remember as mentioned, no handbrake, roll to a stop and leave in gear.
Check wheel bolts as these tend to loosen on track.
Pay attention to tyre pressures. If you are pressing on, start with standard pressures, check when hot and lower by a few pounds if rise is excessive.
Take all junk out of boots and leave with a friendly guy in a garage.
I have a few TD's booked and will use my Skoda but Cadwell in September will becken the Boxster again, can't wait!
If you get on with TD's, consider a baffled sump. A weak point if using sticky tyres which I do. This thread has reminded me and I will order one next week.......ta!
