No carpet, grip ideas?

So I'm finally going the whole hog and fully stripping my clio 182, weirdly really enjoying g the process even if the impact will be minimal


I've just got half the roof lining to go and the front carpet. Couldn't believe how heavy the carpet is so the plan is to take out the front carpet too.

However I'm wondering what I'll be left with under foot and whether I should get some sort of matt or grip tape to take the place of the carpet? Don't want my feet slipping around


I've seen suggestions of skate board tape, any other suggestions on here?

Griptape would do the trick but would probably be a bit hard on shoes; Could glue / double sided tape a regular floormat directly to the floor?

I’ve seen some people rivet chequer plate in to the floor pan where you would put your feet. Also a piece of plywood would also do the trick and would probably be less slippery if wet.

If there's fairly smooth metal under the carpet if out some grit tape on the floor like you'd have on the treads of a ladder

Spray it with pickup load bay spray, which gives a textured non slip finish and covers a multitude of sins underneath.

Skateboard grip tape usually works

Carpet isn’t super grippy, so I wouldn’t be looking to make the replacement more grippy than carpet.

Catching your shoe on grip tape could lead to a mistake just as easily as it might with a slippery floor (if not more so).
I don’t see the point of checker plate either..

Why not just a normal floor mat? Either carpet or rubber.

I use grip tape too

don`t use chequer plate. It looks naff and isn`t that grippy either.

When i removed the carpet from the front of an e46 trackcar, i cut around the heel pad of the carpet and left that in place. The carpet was about an inch thick, so didnt want my heels to be resting an inch lower relative to the pedals.

I stripped my car back to bare metal 4 years ago and never had an issue with slipping feet. Have you tried it, might not be an issue.

You can also wear race boots usually and there is a rubber patch on the heal.

Me too. You're not going to save much weight by removing it and it really helps reduce condensation build up.

When stripping a friends megane we found that the carpet under the pedals was supported by a piece of insulation maybe 2 inches deep. With it removed your feet were in the totally wrong place. We expanding foamed a bit of carpet in to fill the void but really should have just left the drivers carpet as it was. Ditto the headlining, terrible condensation.

This is actually really helpful I hunt thought about condensation and that would be annoying.ibe done half the roof lining I.e.the back so maybe ill leave the front in.

On the carpet I'm now thinking I'll do the passenger side but maybe leave most of the drivers side I
