Hi guys,

My dad and i are doing an ARDS test next month. I was wondering if anyone who has done it could give an indication of what happens in the written test to ease my nerves?

Also, the main thing i'm shaky on is the flags, any useful websites that has explanations of all them as in the handbook?

Cheers,

-Rob

Most of the questions in the test will be covered and the answers given during the briefing/classroom part beforehand, just listen out for the clues!! Remember smoothness, safety, and restraint are required when doing the track driving bit, NOT dumped clutches, wheelspins, tyresmoke, locked brakes and spinning off the circuit and crashing !!!!!! i.e. driving like a chav will result in not passing. You just have to learn the flags. Good luck it's not that hard to pass.

Just ignore them, your fellow competitors will.
If you can remember yellow, blue and red then you'll not go far wrong. red and yellow stripey is a good one to look out for from a personal safety point of view (slippery track).

Watch the video a couple of times and make sure you learn the flags.
There are 2 sets of questions and you must get all of the first set correct. The main thing as others have said is think safety so if in doubt go for the safest option.
The circuit driving is very straight forward- just be smooth, show you are using your mirrors and drive at a sensible speed that demonstrates you are in control of the car.
Good luck

the ards test is a bit of a joke to be honest. watch the vid and dont drive like a nob and you'll be fine. the only tricky question is which flag starts a race - union jack iirc - i didnt know that

It is not the Union Jack - it's the National Flag. Pembrey have been known to use the Welsh Dragon much to the confusion of some drivers.

It's been mentioned before but

Learn the flags

Apart from that it's dead easy

And in the driving section, drive fast and consistently but DON'T SPIN. Automatic fail if you do.

What are you and your Dad planning to race ?
I would not worry to much about the ARDS test, whereas unless you are an iceman, the start of your first race will get the old nerves going. Have fun

We plan to enter our Honda NSX in the Mid Engined Sports Car series, its a gentlemens thing really but Gavin Kershaw and Lee Noble are in it.

So do i need to memorise the safety video or is it general obvious safety questions?

We will hopefully enter the Mid Engined Sports Car series in our Honda NSX and will be against Gavin Kershaw, Lee Noble etc. Eek!

The multiple choice answers are obvious for the various senarios posed.

You must know the flags completely. They show the flags and then a discription and you have to pair them up.

No first aid from the video but its very useful to know anyway.

An example of the MC questions I got.

You drop your helmet and crack it. Do you

A) Buy a new one
B) Paint over it
C) Hey, it's made for bashing, keep it.
D) Sell it to a competitor

Difficult hey ?

Hi Doc, I was going to list the questions but thought we had better leave them unlisted so he and others can sweat over the answers!

One question i got wrong was about checking your mirros, and how often.
I erred on the side of caution and said "often" while the correct answer was along the lines of "now and then, but not too much!"

Hi everyone, just thought i'd say we both passed succesfully.

Don't remember a question on mirrors but the first section was about the flags and 4 other questions. You had to get all of that section right or you fail.

The section section had about 10 questions but you could get 3 wrong.

As long as you know the flags i would say anyone could pass.

Cheers all!
