Another track tyre thread
Discussion
Got my mr2 turbo back on the road this week and now I'm looking to do some trackdays with it as I missed out last year big time.
Only thing is now I'm in need of some new tyres as I ended up selling my old set of wheels which had AD08R's on them, which I loved. Which are also now NLA in europe and replaced by the much worse AD08RS.
So going by the sizes there are 3 choices as far as I can tell.
1. Nankang NSII-R which at the time was considered a step down from the AD08R
2. Toyo R888R a step up but are terrible in the wet
3. Advan 052 apparently fantastic but are eyewateringly expensive and I don't know if I'd be able to take advantage of them anyway. Same goes for the R888R tbh
If anyone has any other options the sizes are 205/45/16 or 205/50/16 front and 245/40/17 or 255/40/17 rear
I'm looking more at the Nankangs mainly because they seem to be the closest thing to the old AD08R, but they seem to have mixed reviews online. Also if the day is changeable I don't have to swap wheels.
Although I'm waiting on a set of wheels from Japan to mount some Michelin PS4's which I'll end up using if it's a proper wet day.

NS2R are great for the money imo. Really stiff sidewalls as you’d expect. Whether you think that’s good or bad is up to how you value your back lol.
I used to just run NS2R but got a second set of wheels. Now it’s Pilot Sports for the road and MRF ZTR for the track. (Doesn’t look like they come in 16’s unfortunately.)
If you don’t want to pay R888r, AR1, 03g, A052, MRF ZTR money then it seems to be NS2R, Ad08RS or Federal RSR are the lower end of the semi slick market.
I also thought the RSR’s were good.
