Help needed: Autosolos
Discussion
Hi all - apologies if this is the wrong forum, I had a look around but didn’t find anywhere more appropriate, please let me know if I should be posting this elsewhere.
Having seen a YouTube video of an Autosolo event at Goodwood I’m interested in giving this a go. Has anyone got any advice as to how to get into this and any considerations?
I live in London but happy to travel to events.

You may know some of this but you have to drive there and back, no trailering, and use standard road tyres
There is no reversing as there would be at an autotest
Autosolos vary, some are in quite a small area and very tight, not for me, others are more open, put Brands Hatch Autosolo into Youtube, Sevenoaks MC do a fantastic autosolo in the outside paddock and on the rally special stage at Brands, Oxford MC do an event on an airfield that looks good as well though you are unlikely to get out of 1st gear
In terms of cars the smaller the better, MX5s always do well, original Minis, small hot hatches
Ultimately it's all about driver skill not the car!

Am I right I’m thinking you need to be a member of a club and have a race licence as well??
Hi Yes and yes, but you can generally join the club very easily, often on the day, and the competition licence you require is free.https://www.motorsportuk.org/competitors/rs-clubma...
I'd have a chat to a local club (Sevenoaks if you're near Brands) they'll aim you at the local rounds for the regional Autosolos and simply do your online licence application and get yourself entered, turn up bright and early to the event and you'll be up and running..
They are really easy to get into and an excellent day out!
I did Autosolos for donkeys years and they are great for low cost competition, if a little limiting with time 'on track' and speed, however they are great way to prefect close car control. I think most events (as with most events at the mo) are booking up fast so you will need to commit early on.
There's plenty of local clubs that organise them. If you london based you wont be far from the FDMC who I used to do plenty with - https://fdmc.org.uk/, they were one of the first clubs to introduce the format in the UK and have a great rep with some decent locations and use some decent timing equipment.

Thanks for the responses. I’m now in receipt of the license and will get in touch with the Sevenoaks club over the weekend.
There is a great Autosolo forum on Facebook which is a great source of info. I help organise the Sevenoaks Autosolos at Brands Hatch too, agin the FB Sevenoaks Motor Club page is a good help. Auto solos are one of the best ways to learn car control to benefit you in other motorsports / trackways. Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
