Trackday booked but my trackday Yokohama rears are totally done, so I need to look at replacements. Fronts are still looking OK.

I'd prefer something that can also be used on road for 'hoonage', but also got to be a strong and durable performer on track, with sufficient grip to keep the car feeling balanced. My TD wheel's are the turbo hollow 18". Michelin & Pirelli top end options are pricey, but obviously good. The Giti Supersport popped up on Google, but I'm never normally an 'early adapter' and don't like the wk spelling either.

Checked a few places and seems stock might be an issue, Camskill seemingly lacking at present.

Please help me find something suitable, as I don't want to kill another set of Michelin Pilot Sports like I did last time out at a damp Oulton Park in November 2019!

Depends what you currently have at the front I guess.

PS4S’s

Brilliant tyres.

Yes they're brilliant on the road but not sure they'll cope with much track abuse, or perhaps you've managed OK on track so far with them? If not then you might get some outside shoulder damage quite quickly so I would consider a full set even if that means keeping the 4S for later use.

Something like AD08Rs might work in terms of cost effectiveness and versatility.

I'm with you on this actually. They suit a heavier sports saloon with regular power levels so might be well suited to a mid weight Porsche with more oomph.

I ran them on my Alfa QF with excellent results on track. My wife has them on her JCW Countryman and they're brilliant.

The AD08R's are what I've happily run previously, just having issues sourcing. They've been brilliant on the car to be honest, but happy to for something newer/available!

I'll look into availability of PS4's.

My buddy (PheonixUK) had to put a pair on the front of his GT2 at Spa, when a New Toyo R888 (the older original trackday defauly) popped an egg during sighting laps at Spa. He loved them and reckoned they were better ultimate grip than the Toyo's. He didn't like the Belgian Dick Turpin who 'robbed him blind' for the pleasure though.

Last night, I actually found a 'new pair' of AD08R's on FB marketplace, but checking year of manufacture before I buy.

Input is very much appreciated, many thanks.

Not PS4's. You need to look for PS4S. Totally different tyre.

Goodyear F1 Supersports? supposed to be comparable to MPS4S, but a fair bit cheaper, and available in 18", whereas MPS4S are 19" and above.

If I'm not mistaken the Goodyears are soft wall tyres so more suited to lighter cars or lower power. Michelin are catering for the heavier load.

Happy to be corrected.

Neither have a track optimised carcass like the AD08Rs or the Goodyear Supersport R so it's difficult to tell if the shoulder will have enough protection through a stiffer sidewall. The other issue with road focused tyres is that the blocks are smaller so move a lot which exarcebates heat build, especially when new.
Having said that I am about to fit x2 fronts GY SS (non R) which are second hand and down to 6mm to the M2 as the rims are really wide and the profile 35 so that might work.

Michelin site confirms nothing suitable in 18" of the MPS4S.

GYs own blurb suggests the supersport range is intended for trackdays, and that they have a superstiff sidewall. i think they're quite different to the usual eagle F1 assy5s.

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/The-new-Goodye...

that page also suggests that the supersport r is available in an 18", but i cant find any... so i think supersport is the best you can do.

obviously you're limited by 18" diameter... buy some 19"s and then you have a lot more choices, but i think a GY SS is the best you can do in an 18".

this test puts SS right up there with MPS4S, the new bridgestone potenza sport, and the Conti SC6 - except its available in an 18".

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-UUHP-Summ...

you could try the new bridgestone, though given the aversion to be an early adopter, you might want to wait a while for more reviews to come in.

For clarity:

PS4S or GY SS = road optimised carcass / sidewall.

GY SS R or GY SS RS or AD08RS = track optimised carcass / sidewall.

If you have a separate set of wheels I don’t see the need to consider anything like a 4/4S.

Assuming your other wheels are fine for road use I’d go for Pilot Sport Cup 2. Great on road for what they are, assuming you are not talking about hoonage in the middle of winter.

What are your other wheels and what do you have on them?

Managed to find some AD08R Yokohama, same as the old ones, for a reasonable price.

Looking at a set of PS Cup 2 next though, when the fronts will also need to be changed. Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R look a good price and available, but I've heard these wear very quickly.

I run Pilot Sports on my 19" road wheels, which are a fab all weather performance capable tyre.

Thanks for all of the input, but finding the right size in stock has been a right mare!

Cup2 or AD08R for me. I currently have the PS4S and they are good on the road but I'd imagine they'd fall apart in no time on track muxh like the PS4 I had before.

Cup 2 not available in 18" though.
Well done finding some AD08R, I wish they still made these, the AD08RS is sadly meant to be a bit crap in comparison.
Trofeo R or A052 is the only real step up still keeping all round usability.

It's might be one of those internet myths. There may be a tiny drop in lateral grip (they were never meant to be the ultimate in that respect anyway) but a lot of it is because they're not as quick to turn on. I have run both back to back.
