Hi guys,

I have an e36 compact which is fully prepped and stripped out which I use for a range of things, hillclimbs, sprints, autosolos, track days, occasional early moring hoon etc.

I'm looking for cheapish all around semi-slick track day tyre and was wondering if anyone uses tarmac rally tyres? There seem a little cheaper than the usual track day tyre choices eg R888s, Direnzas, AD08s etc. I need them.to warm up fast as I do want to try and use the same tyres for most of my events so decent cold grip important for sprints and hillclimbs.

I just wonder how they compare in terms of grip, performance from cold and longevity?

Any thoughts and sharing of experience very much appreciated.

Available in a range of compounds including super soft and the 1B tyre to use for hill climbs. Think they’re remoulds.

Not sure on how long they last but there are usually plenty of used slicks available from circuit racers.

Your requirement to heat up fast for Sprints and Auto Solo's is at odds with durability for trackdays.

An asphalt rally tyre profile is usually very square and carcase is usually tuned for fast change of direction as the courses usually involve a number of chicanes and so the characteristic are different to a circuit tyre. In addition the compound is usually one down on a circuit tyre as stages are short and equivalent to a sprint so a medium asphalt tyre would ne a soft track tyre and so on. Also, they are usually more expensive or at best the same price as circuit tyres if you are comparing like for like brands or performance.

Okay thanks for the feedback. I realise it is always a compromise unless you buy tyres for every single application but my budget won't stretch to that but I'm tempted to try some tarmac rally tyres for the sprints...
