Countdown to the 29th March
Discussion
People I know booking hotels with Premier Inn for a race meeting at Oulton Park on April 10 have received an email about their booking which says,
"If your stay doesn’t meet the criteria, we are not legally able to accommodate you and you’ll either need to amend your booking before 1pm on the day of arrival to a date after the restrictions have been lifted or cancel your stay and receive a full refund. We do however reserve the right to contact the police and/or local authority where we believe a stay is not permitted by law."

But not track days I'd suggest. Silverstone have a very clear garage rule which at a guess I'd say the guidance would suggest that hotels are available only for race teams and not track dayers. "one car / one driver per garage if trackdaying, but race teams can have 2 cars and 3 people per car (driver and 2 helpers).
Makes no sense to me, but it would make sense that a race team bubble could hotel together according to Motorsport rules. Trackdayers maybe not.
Pretty tenuous isn't it, can you really 'volunteer' yourself to something you've paid for? I'm not sure what to do really - just hoping the actual legislation changes will be published soon so we can work it out rather than all this guess work. I'm hoping it will be the same as the tier travelling restrictions, ie if the thing you're travelling TO is permitted then so is staying somewhere to make the journey.
No chance I can drive to Donington and back in a day from Somerset! Equally I'm loathe to lose my money on the booking .

Seems that whilst Motorsport UK has said that Racing can run from the 29th, most clubs have pushed back to say they disagree, with every race meeting that I'm aware of being postponed or cancelled if taking place before the 12th April. Between the 12th of April and the 17th May, people are advised that the relaxation of the rules allow for self catered accommodation and camping only - no hotels.
Personally I 100% agree, track-days are typically a 1 day event, so within reason you can travel there and back in a day (not ideal I agree, but doable).
Race meetings are usually 2-3 days minimum, testing Thursday and Friday with racing/qualifying on Sat and Sun. Club motorsport is not professional sport and I don't see how it can possibly be classed outside of these guidelines.
Big 'professional' level races have been postponed including British Truck Racing and Britcar.
I can see and agree with something like BTCC, BSB, F1 etc taking place an being expempt before these dates. But I don't think club racers should be using hotel's citing an exemption when you can still only have 6 people at a funeral/wedding.

psssh, no commitment! i've done leamington spa to snetterton and back a few times, and in deepest winter too. think that dictated leaving the house at 530am, driving in the dark for 2 hrs, and arriving for 8am. but thats motorsport! No chance I can drive to Donington and back in a day from Somerset! though that said, what car are you driving? i've done those trips in a bmw 3 series with cruise control, if you're driving a caterham i'd perhaps reconsider

Many, many club level series are single day meetings with qualifying and racing on the same day. Even clubs that run two day meetings often have qualifying and races on the same day so that competitors can be done in one day with different series coming in for the separate day.Personally I 100% agree, track-days are typically a 1 day event, so within reason you can travel there and back in a day (not ideal I agree, but doable).

CSCC are still planning to race on sat April10 at Oulton Park with overnight camping apparently allowed at the circuit on the Friday night, although I haven’t entered as I don’t think it’s right.

Yup, as far as I'm aware CSCC are the only club pushing ahead with racing. The BRSCC round's the same weekend have been cancelled.
750mc have re-scheduled their Silverstone meeting from April 3/4 but their meeting at Donington on 5 April is still scheduled to go ahead. I suspect that reflects MSVs different attitude to overnight camping Nat the circuit compared to Silverstones?Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
