Tier 4 trackdays?
Discussion
Daytona Karting in Surrey closed when we went into tier 4 , then re-opened 2 days later but stated that if you live in tier 4 (everyone within 50 miles) you cant attend. Now that advice has gone and its a free for all and it seems anyone can go. I don't see how travelling to a go kart track can be consistent with stay at home unless its essential travel, but it looks like they are trying to claim they sports facilities fall under the exercise exemption.
Lets see what the likes of MSV announce in the coming days.

On the one hand the law states do not leave your home unless its essential - i.e. like a lock down, but on the other outdoor leisure is open including go karting. Is it any wonder people are confused
MSUK have said they will make a statement tomorrow so lets see what happens.

Anyone know if these are still on? I have a few booked coming up. Won't have to travel between tiers as the whole country is basically Tier 4 now!
Golf is on... so am hoping Trackdays are still on...
I don't think travel between different Tier 4 areas is allowed - just because adjacent areas are the same Tier does not make them the same "area".Golf is on... so am hoping Trackdays are still on...
For my sport, out guidance is that we can travel within the same Tier 4 area but not to another Tier 4 area even if they happen to be adjacent.
Guidance seems pretty clear - tier 4 is stay at home:
Travelling within a Tier 4 area
If you live in a Tier 4 area, you must not leave your home unless you have a reasonable excuse (for example, for work or education purposes). If you need to travel you should stay local – meaning avoiding travelling outside of your village, town or the part of a city where you live – and look to reduce the number of journeys you make overall.
Travelling out of a Tier 4 area
You must stay at home and not leave your Tier 4 area, other than for legally permitted reasons such as:
travel to work where you cannot work from home
travel to education and for caring responsibilities
visit or stay overnight with people in your support bubble, or your childcare bubble for childcare purposes
attend hospital, GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health
to provide emergency assistance, and to avoid injury or illness, or to escape a risk of harm (such as domestic abuse)
The full list of exceptions will be published in the Regulations.

Just wondering how you define tier 4 area in this case? It's only defined with reference to a different tier surely?
Well I agree it is far from clear but I guess it is as per the Government website listing the “areas” and their respective Tiers: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/full-list-of-local-res...I had Bedford booked for January and asked MSV about it after the first announcements (21st Dec?).
Their response:
Hi Chris
Nothing has been cancelled at this stage. Regions are reviewed every couple of weeks so we will wait until closer to the time. Should the date be cancelled or the government prohibits your attendance we will issue a credit note.
Best regards
MSVT
So basically they'll just do it case by case I think, fair to assume we'll all still be in Tier 4 for a while yet so I don't expect Bedford to go 4->3 in time for the January 30th date I booked .

Its an outdoor sport. Not been banned. You are allowed to leave your house to do sport.
Stop getting so fking hysterical.
That’s how Id think about it and I hope they agree with your view. It was off during the national lockdown, but hopefully tier 4 leaves some flexibilityStop getting so fking hysterical.

It doeshttps://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home#tr...
“outdoor recreation or exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your Tier 4 area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)”
So I read that to mean if you live in the same area as the track you are fine, but travelling between Tier 4 areas for a track day would not be a justified reason.
