Hi all

I’ve currently got a DC5 track car absolutely love it to bits cracking track car. Anyway debating about taking it off the road and towing it to events. I’ve got a Seat Leon FR 184 TDi Manual so good engine for towing. I’ve looked it up and the car can tow 1600kg max braked which I’m guessing will be fine as my Honda is about 1100kg. My question is will it get up hills as my house is up a bit of a hill?

I tow 1385kg all in with 150 hp. Power is less of an issue, its the weight. I'd guess with a trailer you'll be over the limit for that car.

With sensible trailer choice I don’t think you’d be overweight, however - i tow an MX5 and a Westfield on a Single axle BJ Clubman with a 1.8 TSI (160bhp?) Octavia. As above, power is fine, but it’s much more stable with the Westfield on.

ETA - what I’m trying to say is it’s a lot more stable if the load is a lower portion of the total weight.

In what year did you pass your driving test?

Practically speaking your Leon will tow it fine, but you’ll need to find a trailer which will fit the Honda and has a tare of 500kg or less. If the gross weight of the trailer is too high you could end up needing a B+e licence.

I think you would need a very light single axle trailer to meet the maximum tow limit of 1600kg, which is quite generous and 80% of the Leons 1970kg kerb weight. (80% being

Your DC5 has an unladen weight of 1266KG according to some websites (its lower on others) which leaves only 334kg for the trailer itself.

As an example, a typical Twin wheeler trailer has an unladen weight of about 400kg. So you will need something lighter to have a total weight of 1600kg.

Don't forget to allow for the weight of tools / wheels etc as well.

Total weight can be 3500kg (MAM)

Or if the trailer MAM is under 750kg then you can drive up to 3500kg car/van with the trailer before you need to do a test
