Using slicks in current weather

Hi,

I’m looking for opinions on using slicks in the current weather on a track day? Say it’s dry temperature around 10-12c, too cold or won’t be problem after a few laps to warm them up? Yes my car has a cage before anyone asks 🤣.

What kind of slicks?

Are they brand new or scrubbed?

And what car do you have?

Fine. Raced plenty early/late season in those temps. First lap(s) building heat. Need some spare wheels as mornings start wet and a lot of days won't be dry. Can be a proper faff swapping wheels throughout the day and you don't need to win so would avoid personally.

Have used Yokohama A032R and A048R through winter in a turbo 200hp/tonne FWD hatch with LSD and suspension work with no issues. Standing water was the only real concern so drove accordingly in the wet. No issue at all on cold dry days.

Might be a different story in a RWD car.

Yeah ive got AD08RS to drive down on and do early sessions. There dunlop clio cup slicks and the car is a DC5.

Also they have got about 3mm to the markers iirc so plenty left on them. I got them off a mate and I’ve got spare wheels etc so wondering if it’s worth taking them.

Really it just depends if you can be bothered taking them with you and swapping them around.

The AD08 will serve you well on track anyway.

If I have booked a garage and its raining, I usually let other people use it to swap over tyres under cover, rather than watch them struggle as most have space for two cars.

All you have to do it ask the people in the garages, as most people understand.

So update never got to use them as it was wet. The AD08RS were exceptional in the wet I was noticeable quicker than many cars of a similar category (DC5 250bhp)
