i'm booked in to the Circuit Days trackday on Oct 12th on Nordschleife and also hoping to get a F1 spectator ticket for the GP that weekend.....but the Covid restrictions are understandably tightening and changing across Europe

German entry restrictions are if you've 'spent time' in an at risk region you need to test and potentially self isolate for 14 days. Calais is in a region of France considered at risk...

What are people's thoughts and has anyone traveled out to the 'ring since 16th Sept (when Calais became at risk)?

Check the Eurotunnel website for their latest info. If it hasn’t changed, you can get on a train in Folkestone with a full tank of fuel and you won’t have to get out of your car until Germany, so whatever is happening in Calais is moot!!

Or get out and pay cash if you're so paranoid, no one will be any the wiser.

IIRC they say you can only have 1/4 tank of fuel when on board.

Better idea, go via one of the east coast ports.

From Hull/Rotterdam it is only 3 or 4 hours drive to the ring & you arrive on the continent fresh in the morning after a good night's sleep on the ferry.

I’ve never once had that checked

‘Good nights sleep’ and ‘ferry’ have never went together for me and always early starts for getting off

Hull is almost as far as the 'Ring for me ;-)

The UK gov allows you to drive across non-exempt countries without having to isolate. Not sure the German gov does but its still a safe way to do it

Trying again to get some German F1 tickets today, its too tempting not to try!

Like wise I have never had the tank checked and always travel with it full to the brim.

That’s correct at the moment. Trouble is it can all change at very short notice.

Where did you get that from?

Can even take 30 litres in cans.

It seems I am wrong Alex, I have just had a look through the terms of carriage & I have either misheard that, it has changed or it comes from another means of travel.

I have certainly been told it previously somewhere when travelling with a vehicle abroad some years ago.

Carry on without me. wink

I hate to disappoint you but it certainly wasn't made up.

It comes from when in 2005 I went into Europe with a motorhome.

I looked into several ways of getting there & as there was a restriction of the amount of fuel I was able to have if I used the E/Tunnel this meant that I didn't use it even though I wanted to do so.

It seems this has changed and whether it was vehicle (motorhome) related or not I simply can't remember.

I’m off to Germany on the 15th. Not sure what the process is, something about filling out some forms before returning.

At the moment, fill up with fuel. Get on the chunnel, then straight to germany.
On return fill in the online form for the uk gov within 48hrs of you return crossing.

As it stands at the moment germany is open to people from the uk without quaranteen restrictions if travelling via tunnel.

I wouldn’t bet on that still being the same in a few weeks the way the UK infection rate is going frown

If any of us had the power to predict the future it'd be so useful. Going to have to wait and see.

I went to the ring last week. Filled up with momentum at Tesco Ashford to the brim then on the tunnel you have to stay in the car and no toilets onboard. (Use the ferry and you will have to quarantine).

Straight line over to Aachen (I stopped for a pee in the bushes at a rest area in Belgium which is allowed under the rules, Aachen I filled up again then down to the ring on the 258 passing Monschau.

This avoided any quarantine. Germany you wear a mask inside and to the restaurant table and if going to the loo. It all seems very similar to over here.

On the return I filled up in Adenau stopped at Monschau for a toilet break and some lunch then straight back through to the tunnel.

48hrs before you leave Germany you have to fill out an online form which is a pain in the ass at British passport control he asked if we done it but didn’t want to see it.
