So Kwik Fit have royally fked me over on my Pilot sport 3 order for my clio 182.

Ordered 2 for my fronts wheels last week and booked in for Monday and they are still yet to arrive. I have a track day on Thursday

I have about 3mm or less on both front tyres so had wanted to get new fronts for the track day (I will be getting separate track wheels at somepoint) but now if they dont sort them tomorrow I will have to go on these.

How low is that for a track day on what is looking like it will be a very hot day on dodgy airport surface?!

The rears have more tread so I will probably end up switching them over but stupidly there is one odd nut on one wheel and I only have the jack that came with the car so even switching the wheels round will become a pallava .

Am I over worrying and will 3mm be fine?!

On the info given it seems you are no where near prepared for a track day.

Too many variables to say really.

Personally I’d just check the tyres after each run, swap them front to back if needed. You’ll probably finish them off but from the sound of it you’ve got more than enough left to have some fun.

I wouldn't run box fresh road tyres on a trackday TBH, need scrubbing a bit before track use.

Anyway 3mm which is I assume across the width of the tyre? Should be fine if your not sliding the car all the time, wouldn't expect them to last another trackday but they should still be road legal at the end of it.

Sure it'll be fine, it's not that hot and looking like very overcast with a chance of a spot of rain so it'll be fine on that front. A bit of rain will help your cause!

If you need a proper jack there will be plenty of people around to help, if your struggling I'm in a blue Z4 and should have one if you come and find me.

Other than that concentrate on driving smooth and not sliding around too much as mentioned, will also help your wear a lot.

You’re going to need to find a way to swap them from front to rear.

If you have the spare tyre it can be done with the supplied jack in IIRC 6 moves...

From memory the PS3 was a fairly conservative / touring tyre compared to even the PS2 so perhaps KF have done you a favour if you can cancel that order. You would probably be OK on the day if your drive around the limitations of a road tyre in terms of temperature but getting home in a legal way might be the challenge, depending how far you have to travel.

I would just do what the other poster has suggested and keep an eye on them throughout the day. If/when they get to the legal limit, call it a day and go home.

That said, and assuming that you are doing Abingdon again, you are welcome to pop over beforehand and use my jack/impact gun etc to swap them front to back. I thinking you said that you were in Cumnor so I'm only 10 minutes from you.

You will get less wear on the tyres with lower tread as you will not overheat them. Don't try and do 20 minutes in a go. If you had new tyres, or more to the point full tread height tyres you would get far more wear and actually be more likely to be in a bad way at the end of the day.
See the pictures comparison for full tread that blistered and shave or low tread height. https://www.motmotorsport.co.uk/tread-patterns.htm...

^^^^^^^This is why track day tyres come fresh with only 5mm of tread
