Back of pads after trackday - should i clean it up?
Discussion
hi folks
should i be making any attempt at all to smooth down the surface of the back of the pad before sticking it back in the car? (the backing plate)
when i used them last year i put a generous coating of aluminium anti-seize. It all performed fine.
or should i just use a degreaser and clean them as best as possible?

Yes I used to use the usual “copper grease” on the back of pads until I discovered Wurth Anti Squeal spray.
I don’t fully understand the science behind it but the stuff seems to be essentially pressure activated adhesive that partially bonds pad to the caliper/piston and probably lowers the resonant frequency by combining the mass of the assembly.
It works incredibly well, but is a round about way of saying that in any event it is better if the mating surfaces are smooth, clean and flat.
