My wife has a NC MX5 with Eibach springs and EBC disks and yellow stuff pads. A new set of Toyo Proxes Sport tyres and needs some tuition.

I understand there is no in car tuition going on anywhere at the moment, but is there anywhere localish (Thruxton, Coombe?) to us in Devon where she can get some proper track training?

Any suggestions at all very much welcome. She's not looking to become a racing driver, but a better driver who understands her car and how it handles.

i'd say a car limits day might be worth it over trackday tution. ime track tution is focused on the lines and circuit itself.
car limits is a focus on the general cars limits.

the only one i know about is 'car limits' which is ran at north weald airfield (north london, just outside of m25).

while it might not be your cuppa tea, drift days could also help - learn & predict the limit of the car and also learn how to hold on to a slide.

Thanks. Definitely no interest in drifting. I understand what you mean, but this is all about car handling rather than balancing it on a slide.

Castle Combe are definitely hosting track days but whether anyone is offering instruction at the moment I am not sure. Maybe running an MX5 with the top down will be perceived as less risky for occupants, particularly if wearing full face helmets and balaclavas.

Have a look at the Javelin track day web site and see if they have any advice and dates there.

I also highly recommend “The Motorsports School”. They are based at Mallory Park but will run all round the country and have instructors on their books from all over, too. They are a very good company and specifically offer track day instruction and car handling type instruction in addition to their normal race licence instruction packages.

I think they have their own MX5 that you can hire with an instructor if you don’t want to use your own, but you can, of course, use your own car.

Have a look at OpenTrack. They run track days at both CastleCombe and Thruxton and their prices include both pro photos and 30mins free tuition with racers (my personal fav is Mike Wilds)

They are operating days at the moment, but I don’t think in-cat tuition is happen, but worth checking.

I'd highly recommend Ed Moore at Motorsport Events: https://www.motorsport-events.com/pages/1-to-1-tui...

You have a whole airfield to yourself and you can discuss what you want to learn beforehand and during.

I would also recommend airfield based training rather than on track.
Car Limits are very good, and teach how to handle your car, rather than trackday tuition which teaches you how to drive the track. However it’s in Essex which is not ideal for the OP.

Yeah, Essex isn't ideal right now. Combe or Thruxton would be doable. No in car tuition at the moment though.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll do a bit of Googling.

I race with someone who does driver coaching and tuition based near Castle Combe. He is a very good racer, great teacher and thoroughly nice bloke. If you want me to put you in touch with him just drop me a pm

Except - they currently are blocked by the MOD's insurer from running.....
(The situation may have changed very recently tho)

Some operators are allowing instruction as long as full face helmets are worn rather than open face ones. MSV & Opentrack both are AFAIK.
I'd say an airfield day would be a better place to start than a circuit though. Motorsport Events had their first event at Abingdon last Friday and have several more planned in the coming weeks but you need to check their current position on instructing.
