HI All,

I'm looking for a 1a/1b wet weather tyre for racing and I wondered whether anyone has moved from Rainsport 3's to 5's and specifically if they have any data between the tyres.

I've found Rainsport 3's by far the best road legal wet weather tyre on various car types over the years so reluctant to invest in the newer version, when the 3 is readily available without being fairly sure they'll be at least as good...

Subjective and objective thoughts welcome

thanks in advance

Simon

I know these things are always open to different feel of different bums on different seats etc but the deciding factor for me a few years ago after trying the 3's & not being particularly impressed in the wet was that in the only professional road test where they appear together the R/S3 was not the best wet tyre.

So after that Conti S/C 5s became my wet tyres/road tyres on my e36 track car.

Thanks for your response and as you say, it's subjective.

I think the 3 is incredible and have used them in competition as well as tested against various alternatives (although not Conti's to be fair) with data points that support it.

I'm loathed to spend money on the 5 and am perhaps being over cynical about the fact that the new tyre is actually a fair chunk cheaper!

Have you looked at the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport? They are A rated for the wet. I’ve used them on track days in torrential rain and found them to be excellent. They are only a touch off a semi slick in the dry. I suspect these might work as well as the Uniroyal in the wet and would be awesome on a track that is a mixture of wet and dry.

Check out Tyre Reviews on YouTube and see what you think of their review.

Maybe theyre addressing peoples concerns about RS3s getting dearer and dearer, which they did?

OP you should consider what the OEM's marketing claims about the evolution of the series.

Im using the 3's on road and due a new set this year so was looking at the 5's and alternatives....iirc OEM states 10% improvement in durability/lifespan and ofcourse at no expense to grip. Make of that what you will.

Ofcourse, there is only one way to 'know'......data wink

Im surprised that you feel a road tyre is good for racing purposes, given that a racing wet exists.

Im surprised too, even though Im presuming that the tyres used have to be on the list. PS3s or PS4s will be as good in the wet, far more stable and predictable and a far faster tyre, as well as lasting longer and being able to take track abuse, which the Uniroyals really cant.

Of course, people like what they like and sometimes what youre comfortable with is faster.
