Hi all.

Planning a European driving trip next summer with a track day at Spa Francochamps on the way.

Has anyone done this?

Don't want to use my car, I have a track slag for use on track at home.

The excess or deposits look a bit steep. RSR fine print says: "In certain cases, RSR may require a security deposit for any car hire (e.g. due to weather / driver age / driver behaviour)". Quotes track excess of 10,000 euro for a Civic Type R.

Jaco min deposit is 8500 euro on a 330i. How likely or easy is it to loose your deposit?

Enough track experience here, where I always approach with the attitude of on track to learn, not be fastest on the day - that way you're walking home.

May be a special birthday but a bit steep for my liking.

I'm sure when I first started planning last year Ginetta G40s were a lot more reasonable.

Answers on a postcard please, cheers, Quad

It maybe not quite what you're after, but RSR do have a way of reducing the excess:

That's for the 'ring, but I expect something similar is available at Spa.

That said, Spa isn't a particularly dangerous track. I've been going for years & yes, there are occasional big accidents but they're usually caused by exuberance overcoming talent.

Cheers for that, seen something similar with them at Spa but still rich for me and not keen on choice of cars.

Have found want2race do a 60 quid fee to reduce excess to £250 on a selection of Ginetta which is more up my street.

Really impressed with want2race, did a day at Donnington with them just before lockdown and they were great. I was in my own Caterham but the Ginetta's looked great. I'm hoping that Spa in July with them is still on.

Aren't most caused by exuberance overcoming talent? And insurance is based on this premise.

I've days at Nurburgring and Spa in rented cars through RSR and I can't fault them. Really good guys and if you play within your limits you'll be fine.

The insurance can be scary but I just drove well within my limits and enjoyed the experience rather than thinking "what if I bin it"

just looked at their site based on this post. so, total cost is trackday + car hire + 60quid? they aren't very clear on their site, it can be misinterpreted.

dont suppose you know the charge for an extra driver?

Think it's £50 for an extra driver, and then trackday + car hire, not sure about the £60 bit, never used that but sounds about right. If you mean are there other charges, I don't think so. (except a tenner for a helmet if you haven't got one)

I'd start with how often you crash your own car when at a track new to you? smile

I'd be more interested in if the excess applies to incidents you didn't cause, i.e. what happens if another car just crashes into you. Do you have to cover the cost?

excellent. i guess being owned by ginetta makes the insurance proposition a lot easier.

that comes in under 1k with 2 sharing a car, a little over double what we'd spend over the course of a full day taking into account pads and tyres. i think me and my mate will be along for spa!

Of course it does.

Yes you do, unless of course you can convince the cause of the accident to pay it for you. ...…. Good luck with that!

It's a lot more than that if you're hiring a car as well, unless you mean under 1k each?

No, he said 1k each, two of them are sharing the car. Makes a lot of sense and for a day at Spa, great value.

Yeah for what your getting it’s a great price. Used to sharing a car as ours is race prepped so can take hours of abuse whilst neither of us can! Not having to worry about breakdowns and damage is also a very attractive draw, and spa is the icing on the cake.

It’s not looking great for flights for us though, and we don’t know what quarantine would be in place for when we come back. Might have to wait until next year or look at a different venue.

Not a great place to fly to, it's not a bad drive though, less than 3 hours from Calais. I'm fairly sure there won't be any quarantine in place within the EU by then. I probably would leave it for a while before booking and see how it looks in 3-4 weeks.

I live in Dubai. At the moment there's no confirmation for when the airports will reopen. They're doing repatriation flights but if you then return to the UAE there's 14 days self isolation. Depends on the restrictions closer to the time.
