Hello all,
I am 21 years old and looking to purchase a track car. Most likely will be a pre-modified 330ci with cage, suspension etc.
I have 5 years NCB to apply to the policy and 2 "experienced" named drivers to add as well. Does anyone recommend a reasonable insurer for such a vehicle at such an age?

I have tried Adrian Flux, quoted £1400 which is a bit too much for me.

Thanks

Google "track day car insurance" and try them all, likely candidates would be:

CCI - Competition Car Insurance
A-Plan (Thatcham branch)
Moris

But, as with normal car insurance there are MANY.

Don't forget you can only apply NCD to one vehicle at a time, but SOME insurers will "mirror" the NCD if they insure both vehicles and the TD car is on a restricted mileage policy.

Due to a cock-up on my main insurers part I have two policies with 5 years NCB each so I can rip one off and use it elsewhere biggrin

Also Moris - do they do road driving insurance or track day only as I can't find an appropriate option on their website?

I use Footman James. It’s a road policy which covers me for 8 track days. I’d recommend them, the price is pretty competitive and all I have to do is give them a couple of days notice of where I’m going.

I’ve used Moris too on the day if I’ve forgotten to tell my insurer that I’m attending a track day. I’d recommend them too, although it’s much more expensive to insure daily than have a yearly policy that includes track days in my experience.

Yes true. I use Moris and it's around £100 per day for £25k worth of car so merging the two is bound to be cheaper indeed.

Point to note: if you crash on track on your combined road and track policy you'll affect any road policy going forward. It'll be a claim dealt with like any road incident bar any excess adjustment (unless you can agree a total separation in the event of X, Y or Z).

If you go for a separate track policy (Moris for example) it'll be totally separate to any highways insurance claim process and shouldn't affect your road insurance going forward. Private policy on private land if you know what I mean. Think how many racing drivers crash every year and ask yourself if their road policies should be affected. Unlikely.

I've recently had a total loss claim go through Moris and when I informed my road insurance provider they weren't bothered, even though it was the car they were covering. If I'd gone with a road policy that included X-number of track days then it'd be a different story.

That's useful - thanks.

Would be worth trying ClassicLine Insurance too. They cover drivers from 18 if you've held a license for a min of 12 months and can offer track day cover too. https://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/

Thanks, that’s really interesting.

Any other ideas for companies offering single day track cover?

Thanks in advance

I would highly recommend using no insurance and just transporting the car to and from the track. Storing the car in a garage when not in use

So your recommendation is to buy a track only car, not insure it for track or laid up cover, and then buy another vehicle with a trailer and insure that instead?
