So after a long search I have finally bought a 182. It is in pretty good nick apart from some funny electrical issues that I am hoping will not prove problematic/expensive but the car is now leaving me very confused.

Basically everytime I think about going out for a drive I find myself very excited to get into the clio and hunt down some twisty roads and I am finding it the most rewarding driving experience I have ever had. its had exhaust induction, RS192 remap and is sitting on eibachs.

I am enjoying driving, or in fact just thinking about this car so much so that I am now very confused as to why I have been lusting after porsches and AMs when for under £2k I am getting more excited to drive this little beasty than I do to get in the Z4M Coupe.

I feel like I have had it all wrong for so long?!

slower cars can be pushed to their limits much more than say a 911 on UK roads

I’ve a 996 & a half share in a 325ti that we’re creating into a road/track car (& have also had until recently a tuned Mini Cooper S). The ability to have fun at lower speeds & feel the car “move” around without risk of losing your licence is a great attribute of the Compact, plus with bucket seats bolted straight to the floor & coil-overs it feels much more fun than what it’s cost us to create. We’ve also the peace of mind that if we did “break” the engine, that the cost of a replacement used engine isn’t big £s.

Congratulations - I'm always in awe of how quick these little cars can be on track in the right hands

Its the same reason I love my 106 Rallye.

On a twisty B road I can drive it flat out with a huge smile on my face without having to do silly speeds.

Bloody hell. Finally.
I don't think I've ever known anyone start so many basically identical threads before buying a car.

Why not start a Readers Rides thread if you want to discuss the car?

Yep - a small chuckable car is much more fun than a bigger sports car on the road imho.

Get it on track and you'll be buzzing after a few laps hustling 911s etc. I did Snett in a bog standard MX5 in the damp and spent the whole day showing people with 3 x the HP up. it's great.

After a few track days, go and do a Targa rally in it. Then you'll never think about a Porsche ever again.

Bang on the money. It's far more fun ringing a cars neck without getting into trouble than only using 50% of a cars capabilities because it's too fast for the road.

Plus, while I still leave plenty on the table on track days (self preservation I guess!) it's enjoyable knowing if I finish the brakes or stack it/blow it up it doesn't matter too much.

There's a lot to be said For having a small cheap fun car where you can really push it in the knowledge not a lot is lost if you bin it.
I currently have a cheap MX-5 for the same purpose, I put it into a tyre wall at Oulton at the start of the year which was a little disappointing but a new rear bumper off ebay sorted most of the damage and it's still going strong

I've got a Megane R26. Its worth about £2k, has 280bhp, Cooksport springs, quickshift and is bloody amazing fun. I'm sort of stuck with it. Anything else is massively more pricey and won't be as fun (unless i get another Elise). Modern cars are so big and heavy they will never drive like these older, lighter cars.
