Don't the JDM GTRs have GPS recognition for circuits, dynamically lifting the speed limiter when they're at a race track?

Seems easy enough

As track days aren't the public highway, won't have speed limits programmed for them within the GPS downloads, and won't have speed limit signs on the circuit, one should be able to do whatever speed is possible, I reckon smile

Well, unless the car sees the 10mph sign in the car park and then refuses to let you do more than that all day until it sees a sign on the main road when you pull out at the end of the day or picks up the GPS overlay for it... ?? lol

Well given that the limiters can all be turned off, it's a non issue.

The ETSC only recommends a “full on/off switch” for the limiters should be included “to aid public acceptance at introduction”, indicating it intends to push for even stricter rules in the future.

If the car knows where it is and the speed limit that applies at that location, all that needs to be done is to have 200mph speed limits imposed at all UK circuits.....

I have this horrible suspicion that new legislation will not take use of road cars on private ground into account, so 70mph maximum will apply across the the whole UK.

But perhaps I'm just a cynical miserable old git and all will be fine. Most on this thread don't see a problem - hope they're right whistle

But for how long? "The council is likely to push for there to be no off switch for the limiters once motorists have become accustomed to the systems."

"Even though the UK is planning to leave the EU this year, it’s likely the new speed limiter rules would continue to apply here after Brexit. The UK’s Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) has stated it intends to mirror EU rules post-Brexit, while car makers are unlikely to produce different vehicles specifically for the UK market."

All in favour of that - our two race cars date from 1983 and 1958 thumbup

Reckon that will be the trend - high performance road cars will become historic, literally something from the past. Fine for track use or occasional controlled Old Timer events but certainly not for everyday transport.

This revolution is happening fast and I'm not sure I like the outcome - brave new world whistle

US manufactured cars will still have to conform to EU Regulations as they do now.
