Hi all,

I'm sure this topic has been discussed in the past several times, but I've use the search button, and all threads are a bit old and outdated.

For those of you who drive your trackday cars from your home to the track and back. What insurance provider are you using?

I've tried Reis, and they offer a very competitive price, but they say that as soon as you get close to the 'ring during a TF your policy will be completely invalidated for the whole year.

I've tried Towergate's competition car insurance, and they rejected me straightaway, even without asking about the nurburgring or the modifications in my car. Their reason: they won't insure a bmw 330ci e46, period.

The car is currently part of a multicar cover with admiral, but paying £600+ only for that car, which I think is completely outrageous for a car I will use, literally, less than 10 days a year.

Any recommendation?

So is your car modified or not?

Are you seeking cover for TF days?

Just for travel to/from TD venues?

Cover for while on track UK?

All make a massive difference.

Sorry, I have not specified what kind of car is:

-The car is used only for TrackDays, and every now and then for pleasure driving during a weekend. In total, I don't think I drive it more than 10 times a year.

-The car IS modified (suspension, brakes, interiors... all the usual track-only car stuff... and will soon have a cage)

-I am not expecting TF cover, but it would be great if it has.

-Yes, just travel to/from tracks, during TD. Maybe a short drive during a weekend. Never racing.

-Not expecting cover on track, just on the road. Again, will be a plus if it includes cover on track. But the car is not worth that much.

Summary: I want the legal minimum cover to use the car on the road, just with the peace of mind that the insurer is aware of the modifications, so they won't reject to pay the third party in case of accident.

The car is not worth much and, if I crash it, I can afford rebuilding it myself or buying something equivalent.

I have had an e36 328 previously & now a Cooper S both with mods to around 220+bhp/brakes/suspension/interior etc & found APlan to be very competitive.

They will quote for TD cover if required also, although I don't do it unless it is included.

My policies for the Yorkshire area are nominally around £250/300 for each of the above cars.

Forget getting TF cover included, although 1st party cover can be bought separately.

Thanks, I'll call them again, but was very disappointed the first time I called them for a multicover car insurance.

My renovation quote was £2400 for 3 cars, I called them to see if they could lower that, and the best offer they could give me was £3000... ridiculous.

I use Greenlight insurance for my MX-5 which is fully road legal but doesn't get much use apart from driving to track days and home, insured for my mods, which are pretty minimal but they cover mods, they do offer track cover too but I don't bother as the excess for that is near the value of the car

It may be that restricting yourself to multicar policies is what's hurting your quotes as it narrows the pool of providers. What if it's not on a multicar policy? APlan's performance/modded performance section were always very competitive for me.

Greenlight don't cover BMWs so they're out.

Have you tried the Thatcham branch of A Plan. That's the specialist cars section.

They'll have more options than standard A Plan branches

I use REIS...have done for years for a Caterham. They have always been competitive. Their track day cover is specific to a list of track day organisers.

I've recently gone multi car policy with them also

I have no intention of going to the 'ring though.

Pace Ward.

Although, BMWs are in general, expensive to insure.

My GT86 is half the price of my E36 328i track car.

Just for general information, if someone reads this post in the future with the same problem as I had:

At the end, A-plan's quote was £400, and when I told that to my current insurer, they finally pull their finger out and gave me a competitive quote, for the multi-cover of the 3 cars we've got at home.

Although I'm not very happy with them, I decided to stay with Admiral.
