We are planning a trip this summer bank holiday to Nurburgring, but on Saturday will be closed, so we were thinking to spend the day on a different track in the area.

First option is Spa, but unfortunately they are not running any track day that weekend.

Any other suggestions? Any other driving alternative? Famous B-roads etc.?

Thanks

The sommerrodelbahn at Altenahr is great fun and a nice B road drive from the Ring.

It's possible to get from top to bottom without braking but I did manage to tip over once and got a nice friction burn on my arm!

Apart from Spa most circuits around the Ring are at a distance of 200 km (= 125 miles) or further, unfortunately. Examples:
- Hockenheim 200 km
- Zolder 200 km
- Bilster Berg 300 km
- Zandvoort 365 km
- Assen 400 km

I would suggest to visit some other tourist attractions of the Eifel like for instance the Eltz Castle or the radio telescope Effelsberg. Driving through the Eifel mountains and the picturesque landscape is quite fantastic in itself.

There's another, faster one at the wildpark (boar and deer) near Daum.
It's not possible to complete this one without braking...

On topic, the nearest circuit I'm aware of is Hockenheim, which also does a version of Touristenfahren, but not very often.

Have you been before? I could spend a day just wondering about the place, few trackside walks, museum, chill at the Cockpit for a bit.

Failing that there are plenty of beautiful routes you could take in any direction and just enjoy the roads, find a stop off for lunch and take another route back. I'm gonna spend a day doing this on my next trip I think.

You could hire MTBs from here

https://goo.gl/maps/USGqhrnbQVR2fM5b6

and then ride around the Ring on the path that follows the track

Admittedly the first section up to Hohe Acte is a bit of a trial, but thereafter it is great fun

You also get to watch whatever is happening on track at the time
