I’ve currently got EBC yellowstuffs on my Fabia and they’re not far off being worn out so I’m looking to replace them. They have managed 2 track days and around 5000 road miles. I was expecting more to be honest so I want to know if there’s better alternatives or if I’m being unreasonable in expecting more mileage out of them. Ferodo DS2500’s are mentioned a lot but from what I’ve read give similar performance and longevity for more money, is this the case?

I’ll also be looking at getting new discs. Anyone any recommendations for discs? I’d like something that will reduce temperatures a bit so I’ve been looking at grooved/slotted discs but all I’ve seen so far are the EBC offerings, anything else I should look at?

The car is mainly a road car and will do 3 or 4 track days a year so I don’t want to lose too much performance when cold.

I've used both Yellowstuff and Ferodo 2500 on my MINI and the Ferodos are vastly superior in my opinion. MINIs are really tough on front brakes as they are very heavy across the front axle and the brakes get very hot as the discs are too thin (24mm from memory).

For me the Yellowstuff barely lasted two track days, whereas I would expect to get 5 or 6 days out of the Ferodos. I would also recommend not using drilled discs as they are prone to cracking - slotted should be okay.

Currently I am using Carbotec pads (XP10s) which seem even better than the Ferodos and are about the same price for the MINI but I would expect them to be harder on discs so I use slotted Nitrac discs which are expensive but seem to survive the heat better than the Pagids I used before.

Ive just put DS2500 on my R32. Not tried them on the track yet but on the road they are pretty awesome. Going to book a track day for next month to try them out.

Used to use yellow stuff before swapping to ds2500s... I find them about the same when up to temp but the 2500s are considerably better from cold.

As you have found EBC are pretty rubbish, I have tried all EBC compounds & found them all to be rubbish.

DS2500 are better but IMHO you are much better with proper track pads & swap them over if you don't want them on the car all-year-round.

DS1.11, DS UNO, Pagid RS29 are all excellent for this & the difference is truly night & day to EBC.

They are all around 2 x the price of EBC but will last me a year instead of a day.

Don't use drilled discs as they can crack from the holes, grooved are generally considered better, and stick with a good make such as Ate, Brembo, AP.

Well i used to use ebc blues, but would only last 2-3 days before needing replacement. I bought performance friction pf08 pads, probably twice the price, but so far have done 5 trackdays and are only half worn.

Personally i stick with normal vented discs... pads, brake fluid and cooling are more important imo... can you remove front fog lights for increased airflow into the arches? I did, made a noticable difference.

I use standard discs and M1144 Mintex pads on my track RX8. I have had no problems at all with it even at Combe and wouldn't change them. They're also very very good on the road if you need that, even from cold. I just change the brake fluid (5.1) regularly.

I have a 924S and run stock Brembo discs with Carbone Lorraine pads and a good fluid, works very nicely.

I've used PFC pads in the past, good wear and lack of fade.

It's weird, for balance I use EBC, They get such mixed reviews.

I have Reds in my Evo. I like them as they are such low dust. Fine for fast road, they even stood up to a full tank of gas round Knockhill. Admittedly it's probably one of the slower tracks around but still, they did the job (after they had some heat - massive fade before the heat set in and they were fine.

No doubt the likes of Ferodo/CL/Pagids best efforts are superior but for the price I found EBC ok.
