In need of a low profile trolley jack which will be used mainly at home, but i'm also aiming to do the occasional track day so ideally need it to be not too heavy so it can go in the boot with no troubles. Was wondering what you guys are currently using and recommend?

I use the one from Costco which is pretty good value for money and stable when your surface at a track might not be ideal.

I've got an SGS one and it's been the worst POS I ever bought, it's even been back to them for repairs and still doesn't work right.

Was just looking at that exact one. Nice wide lifting pad and it looks immensely sturdy. Weighs 35kg though so not gonna be easy to transport around but with that size it will probably last longer than me.

Another vote for the arcan one from Costco. They do matching axle stands as well.

Do you have the space to transport a trolley jack t9 trackdays.

I have a good quality jack for home and use a normal small steel trolley jack and a back up scissor jack for the track. I can fit all the key tools, spares and tyres in the one vehicle.

I've got this one too for travelling. I've got an almost unliftable (i.e. it's fecking heavy) Clarke 3-tonner in the garage for maintenance/repair work.

This is the one i went for in the end. Car is only 1.4t wet so the 1.25t rating should be plenty plus it's nice and light so i can chuck it in the boot and forget about it.

I have been using the Halfords one for years, as my car has low ground clearance. Never felt the need to change it

my SGS 1.5ton aluminium one completely failed this morning. looks like the lock valve seat has been damaged so no longer properly seals. Get the weight of the car behind it and it'll just release like you've twisted the handle. Wouldnt even hold the weight of the a 4cyl 2.0t engine when i did some engine mount work the other week but figured it was just at the end of it's travel. Today proved it was dead.
it's outta warranty. maybe 2.5-3yr old.

ran out to get halfords 2t low profile jack this morning and not only is it easier to jack up, it's also lighter. so much for this lightweight aluminium race jack. complete fad as what you save on weight is lost due to thickness of aluminium required. Only downside going back to the cheaper steel jack is a smaller pad area (is it really an issue?) and you have to remove the handle to lower the car.
not sure how much better the pro steel jobbies (£150) are over the cheaper DIY grade ones (£50), probably hard to justify if your not working on it every weekend.

I had a machine mart one for 5 years, but it recently started slipping and wasn't low enough (had to drive onto boards first!) now have an SGS, cost £50 with some nice axle stands that were better than the ones i had. Seems fine to me.

I've got one of the aluminium Arcan jacks (as per Costco, but bought from another source, via eBay ei think) and it's been great.

Would have got a steel one, but was moving house and helping others with their cars a reasonable bit at the time, so the ability to lift it into a car single handed.

It only gets light DIY uses but I've had it five six years no issues.
