Got a track day at Mallory in a few months and thinking of making a weekend of it with the Mrs, so looking for recommendations for the evening beforehand (places to stay and eat) within, say, 30 minutes of Mallory. Leicester looks like the obvious choice but happy to get recommendations for nice country hotels etc...

Cheers

A weekend in Leicester and Nuneaton. She's a lucky girl. laugh

In all seriousness, Leicester isn't a hugely pleasant city - steer clear.

I'm sure you'll find a nice country hotel/spa thing somewhere.

Room and pampering at Ragdale Hall (about 40 mins from Mallory) and dinner at John's House.

There's a hotel outside the gates of Mallory. I stayed there, I can't remember the name.

My room door was stuck, and the 'lady' that was skimpily dressed and hanging around outside who had just been let in a fire escape by the hotel manager who then told her what room tonight... She shoulder barged the door open because she stayed there last night and it was sticking shut every time..... Miss Jones he kept calling her.....

Made for a night of sleeping with as minimal contact with the bed sheets as I could humanly manage.....

Breakfast was poor too.

Ragdale is very nice

Bosworth Hall and Spa is near but I have not been.

There is the battlefield if that interests you and even Twycross Zoo..?

I would look for a nice B&B in one of the villages, it's in the national forest and there are some nice places tucked away.

Leicester Highcross is good for shopping
Market Bosworth is nearby, go to the Black horse for a bite to eat, if its your thing theres the battlefield visitor centre and preserved railway.
Tropical birdland near desford.
Theres a B&B in kirkby mallory, theres also a couple of hotels in bosworth too.

Just resurrecting a thread just in case anyone else is planning a trip to Mallory.

First of all, from the suggestions of hotels, I ended up choosing Bosworth Hall. Whatever you do, don't stay there! It makes Fawlty Towers look good.

Mallory as a track though was pretty awesome, Gerrards takes some bottle to keep your foot in. They spoiled it a little bit by putting a coned chicane down the main straight to slow you down but a great day out and the weather was spot on.

Market Bosworth is a lovely little town, and Ashby was OK for a wander around.

Cheers
