I'm considering a drive experience for a birthday, however I've driven fast cars and been a passenger also around a track and I don't see the appeal frownI think a "star in a reasonably priced car" experience (ALA old Top Gear) would be more satisfying as it's likely to be near the car's limits, rather than the supercar which is unlikely to be anywhere near them. Anyway, It seems the Dunsfold track used by Top Gear used to run one up until a couple of years ago. Anyone know where I can drive "a reasonably priced car" around the track?

I've done caterhams, lotus etc - I want something that's easy to crash laugh so there's actually a challenge.

Go to a Rally School for the day.

From my experience, £XXX gets you 15 minutes (if your lucky) in a completely shagged 'supercar', with an instructor holding you back at all times, shifting early etc.

The same £XXX at a Rally school got me as much driving as I could manage in a 1400 Corsa, then an 2000cc Astra, then a Subaru, on proper rally stages, bouncing off the redline all day, on the magic wand into hairpins, instructor screaming 'more power' etc...

Miles better fun.

I'd tend to agree with that, I did a quick Lamborghini experience, at the end of it he asked me what I thought, blunt response was that I think your Gallardo is fked.

did this years ago and it was pretty good fun

This. I "drove" a Ferrari 430 at Thruxton and it was a joke. Had more fun driving home in my E92 M3.

Opentrack used to have a track prepped Peugeot 106 for hire...

Ooops - just checked and they've only got a Caterham on their website now... you could ask, Dave may still have it.

I think it's Ginettas now. After Ginetta purchased Bookatrack the Caterhams probably didn't fit as nicely in the business plan.

Take your own car (whatever it is) on a track day.

If you can't manage to get your own car near a limit and enjoy it, you either don't like track days or the car isn't fun to drive at the limit - either way, you get an answer to the question of what you enjoy. If you don't enjoy caterhams or lotus on track I'm not sure you are going to find anything that satisfies you...
