Trackday report - Anglesey - £700 Golf shed

Last weekend I did Anglesey in storm conditions! What a day.

The car is a stripped out V6 4motion, with Dunlop Direzza semi slicks, 6 pot brakes and coilovers.





On the one hand, this is basically an absolute pig of a car. It understeers so badly in slow corners, something I really can't get past.

On the other hand, it's really grippy in the faster bends, loads of traction and enough power to keep up with most things. On the brakes I was closing 6-8 car lengths on many things, so gaining there too.

I overtook:
- 2x TVR Cerbera
- Cayman R
- Golf R
- 350z
- Elise
- Exige
- Skyline
- 2x E46 M3
- Unidentified 2 seater kit car

I was overtaken by:
- Civic FK8 (ended up crashing)
- Civic EP3
- Fiesta ST (?!)
- Megane RS250 Cup

I absolutely love the track, great views too.

Maybe with some front camber, or a stiffer rear ARB the Golf could turn in a bit better and be more competitive.

Did well considering Direzzas are crap in anything but dry conditions.

I do hope you've fed this info to Mercedes, Ferrari, even McLaren perhaps? I thought of telling everyone I could see at the time, but it was just my cat, sorry.

Partyvan, ignore the salty comments - racing and timing is generally frowned upon on track-days. That's impressive for a car only costing £700 to last!

Shame about the EP3, hopefully no injuries.

Great day out always had at Anglesey.............well done OP.

Only criticism, if I dare, there shouldn't be competition involved, for £700 you should have a massive smile on your face and the number of cars you overtake shouldn't be part of it ...........driving a car on its limits is fun however fast or how much it costs IMO.

Assuming you mean me, I’d like to say that I remember but was too busy fighting the thing! It was my first time out in the build - gearchange mechanism broke followed by the clutch cable.
