Just booked on, my first (proper) trackday.
Anyone else going?

Would be nice to leave my tools and stuff close to someone's setup as my mate is a 50/50 on if he can make it (Renault problems), always worried about my tools being nabbed...

Has anyone used the driving tutor available at open track? Worth seeking out?

Just got back from a track day there.

It was only my second and both have been at Bedford with Javelin.

I had three lots on my first day and two today.

I was quite nervous on my first one and the tuition was well worth it.

Today I had lots more confidence, the track wasn't busy and TBH I probably only needed the first session of tuition because he helped me a lot with my braking. I was able to get a lot more laps in on my own so the second probably wasn't needed.

I leave a bag with spare oil, food, 12v compressor in it and never had an issue. Lots of tools are left in the pit garages but I guess its always at your own risk.

Thankyou, I need to check what tools I need to bring, no point bringing too much for something I can't fix there anyway.

Do people usually leave spare wheel etc somewhere or in their cars?

Getting abit nervous now, looks like rain on Monday so can't decide if I should use some older tyres like planned or my cinturatos.

Hey, I'll be there on Monday, if you are concerned at all about tools, you can book a garage, it costs £30 and its what I have done, in light of some potential rain, it's also a good idea to not be standing outside fixing a problem when it rains. That said, I've done numerous track days at Bedford, with Javelin, MSV and Opentrack and never had any issues, I know they could happen, but its rare and Dave and the open tack team are a good bunch, they also don't oversubscribe their days.

On the plus, its going to be a wet Monday in winter, last time I was there, it was 17 cars all day, so a pretty free run in and out of the pits and nearly all of us had free garages

What are you driving by the way?

Good to hear someone else is going! Thanks for the info, can bring my stuff with abit more confidence now.
I was hoping there would be lower numbers than usual, don't want to spend the day letting people past.

I'm driving a mk2 mx5, you?

I've not ever worried about someone taking tools etc. I usually go with a jack and a 'really useful storage' box with jack stands, small selection of sockets and some other bits (including the mandatory duck tape and cable ties!). I'll just throw it down at the edge of the space I'm in along with spare wheels&tyres.

Generally everyone is a good bunch and happy to help out, I've had to borrow tools from others with no problem. If someone is up to no good, generally it'll be spotted, usually 50% of people are on track, the other 50% are cooling down or fixing their cars. So plenty of people about.

A garage is a good idea, so you have a bit of space and can keep dry, but they are not locked, just open. You'll also find people dump their stuff in the corners anyway, especially if it's raining.

Cool, good car, I always see people knocking around in those with a big grin on their face, Bedford is flat as a pancake with loads of run off, but its far from a boring circuit, I like it a lot and I'm sure you will too.

I will be there in this - let me know if you need any help on the day with anything

Well that was a brilliant day, did 240 miles around the track in total and the mazda didn't miss a beat.

Struggled with adjusting to a wide open circuit and my new brakes at first but started to get into the groove and felt like I was holding up alot less people by the end, even managed to keep up with a few minis and a gt86 on semi slicks, which is a good sign for when I ditch the crappy Road tyres for something better.

Couldn't recommend opentrack enough, free tuition, pictures and tea! What's not to like.

Was everything alright with the car 1781cc? I didn't see you out on track many times

Sounds like you had a good day, Mazda sounds solid and reliable, it’s a great circuit isn’t it?

I stomp around Bedford a lot, so I used the day more to experiment with setup as I had made a lot of changes over winter, so was playing with wing angles, suspension settings and tyre pressures, I had a good day and the car was quick and reliable, had some fun with the RS6, the civic race car and the grey M3 so all in a good day.

What’s your next track?

Yes, I've heard some people talk down on it but I thought it was great, the extra run off was handy when I had a big 720 spin on the final corner..

That's good to hear, you were bloody quick the few times you passed me!

Urm next circuit will probably be an evening at Donington, just need to do some bits to the car and sort a date out first. What circuits do you go to?

Yeah, its good fun there, Donnington is pretty epic, as is Silverstone, if you like less of a power circuit then Blyton park is worth looking at.

Hello gents, I was there too in the burgundy red Mk3 Mx5, saw you both on track, think I spoke to you about the roll cage in your mk2 mx5 and sat in your car, I was the short fat bloke in the black coat.

Had a great day, car ran really well (2nd trackday in the car) and everyone was well behaved and having fun, that gold Skoda Fabia was flying around at a decent rate!

I've booked an evening at Brands on the 10th April with Opentrack for my next one if anyone else is going?

Yes that was me! Nice to meet you.
Brands hatch is one hell of a commute for me sadly, but I'd love to do it one day.
