Does anyone use a non-sports model for track work?

My dad has bought an increadibly cheap 2002 Mini Cooper to use through winter to save use on his focus rs. I used to have a Mini Cooper S of the same vintage and always intended to use it on track but never got round to it. The Cooper S always felt like it would make an excellent track car.

  • edit* F*cking grammar error in the title
Would the Cooper feel any good on track? The plan would be uprgrade the brake pads fit fresh discs and put some decent(ish) rubber on the car and take it to blyton for the day once he puts his focus back on the road and doesn’t need to rely on the Mini. ... would we/the car be completely out of place and have a disappointing day?

The car will most likely be fine and you’ll enjoy it. I did a day at blyton with my mate in his 1 litre polo and that was a right laugh even with only 54bhp. I’ve tracked my Skoda Fabia and that was fun too.

Honestly. Any car is fun on a track.

^^^^ Wot 'e (they) said.

They also respond well to mods if you wanted to keep it for winter track use for longer.

I took my old touran on track... good fun, arguably handled better than my TT does!

I was at Blyton last year abd someone had a Nissan Leaf on track, it was an absolute PITA and was holding most people up but I don't think that was just down to the car if I'm honest, probably more the driver.

If a Nissan Leaf can go on track anything can!
