Hi,
I’m looking to book Silverstone and the DB is 102 drive by on the date I’m looking to go.

The last time I went it was 105 static.

Is there much in it?

I will be taking a 996 GT3 with updated mufflers (nothing too loud, did the 105 static day no problem)

Thanks,
Dan

Well bedford say that a car thats 99db or over static might trouble their 87db drive by limit, so id say about 12db difference. Though there is no standard distance for a driveby test.

Ps not obvious from your post, but how loud is your car static?

In the briefings at Silverstone they tell you if you have modern car with a sport button, don't press it. Plenty of tasty stuff gets black flagged with the exhaust valves wide open. Places like Brands Hatch struggle with these cars even in the quite settings.

12db less.. but that would make the day 90db static? (102 - 12?)

I’ve never tracked the car before, so hard to say. My old standard GT3 was 101 static from memory.

Thanks for your reply BTW.

I was there on Monday, in the briefing they said that the 102db drive-by equates to 105db static so you should be OK if you can pass that....

My car with the sports exhaust on is 106dB static (measured at another track day) and didn't get black flagged at a 102dB drive by session at Silverstone. So you should be fine.

I think there's much more than 3dB difference between static and drive by.

Thruxton on Monday and they've got a 90db limit! My 325 compact with no engine mods/standard exhaust is 86db. Can't imagine anything half decent getting near that.

My BMW scraped 100.8 on static at Bedford, but didn't give me any grief at 87.5 driveby, however did make a conscious effort not to ping them...

Hi Dan,

I took my 996 GT3 to Silverstone this summer, which was also a 102 DB drive-by day. My car normally registers between 105-106 DB static which is touch and go on most UK circuits. My engine is standard apart from an M&M (aka Manthey) exhaust.

I have been black flagged at Snetterton and Donnington in the past due to noise, so I was apprehensive having paid £500 to attend the day at Silverstone.

Needless to say my fears were eased that morning as several 488 race cars were fired up the garages. Damn they were LOUD! The 996 GT3 was a mere 'fart in breeze' compared to some of the machinery on display, and I had an awesome day not having to manage my noise.

You'll love the circuit, have fun.

Matt

On the day mine was 80db, lowest I've ever recorded. Although the old duffer doing the measuring really didn't want to bend down and just waved his equipment roughly in the direction of my exhaust.
