OK, really getting to grips with it now, the only problem is that i remember it like a walk in the park until the 1st Karousel, but in between that one and the next mini one is a nightmare for me.

this particular section looks all the same to me, and i can't seem to fix on any markers to help along the way ???

Dis the Ring once last year, and going again in a couple of weeks, and want to have a better idea of what's coming next !!!!

tips please ??

try and split the track into the following 2 sections

1) 1st karussel to brunchen : (the 'stadium' section where loads of spectators gather - i.e. come round the downhill left hander (esbach), into the 90 degree right in front of the crowds, then up the hill on the next left hander (trying to resist the understeer!)

2) exit of Brunchen to the 'mini karussel'. A much faster, flowing section, although very sensitive to line chosen to keep the car settled going over the various crests in this section.

just my 0.02 fwiw.....

I'll see anyone who's going to be over there this w/e in the car park I guess. (6'5" slightly balding chap). Passengering in a clio 182.

PPS Anyone in a 964RS, watch your downshifts coming into Scwedencreuz - I mishifted and did about £6k of engine damage there last year - my god those were expensive laps!

I don't down-shift at SX at all - over the crest at 145 to 150 mph - brake to 120 ish and then back on the modest throttle, still in fifth, through the left - back to full throttle for a short while, and then brake big-time for Aremburg taken in third.

I find it much easier to remember in real life - it's so much more memorable! GT4 does make it all feel a bit samey

I guess I think of it like this:

Karussell to Hohe Acht - all up hill - it's *really* steep - try it on foot (or a push-bike). The main point of concentration is the fast left-hander after the Karussell. You need a bit of a lift before the left-hander, but other than that it's full power all the way from turn-in to exit. Downshift to thrid for the next left-right to HA.

At HA, you're at the highest point - very slippery section under the trees (in the wet - watch for cars pointing the wrong way) from there to Wippermann.

Wipermann's a hoot - crash the curbs (unweighted wheels) and up to Eschbach via a reaaly great blind right-hander.

Now down into the Brunchen section - the granstand - showboat for the crowds if you dare. Careful of the off-camber up out of Brunchen on the way to Eiskurve.

Eiskurve is also slippery - there's an emergency helicopter landing marker up there - camber changes - careful but get on the throttle for the 'fun' jump at Pflanzgarten. Brake before the jump, or before and after the jump - but be sure not to be on the brakes when you land.

Run round the double right-hander and there's a tricky crest (in powerful cars) before the left and the dangerour dip and then a lovely blind left-right (that you straight-line) before the run up to the start of Schwalbenschwanz and the mini-Karussell.

I'm still far from comfortable through Pflanzgarten after well over 1000 (real-life) laps.

Does that help?
Best of luck.

good advice for a newbie with the lift, but after a few laps anything less than 300hp this is easily taken flat!! Love this turn - uphill and a bit of pos camber...

The real ring also has white dots spray painted at the approx turn in and apex for just about every turn - assuming they weren't washed away in the 24 hr race, use them as reminders and hints as to which line you should be shooting for.

cheers
Kurt

On exiting the Karrasel firstly make sure you dont exit too early late apex the slight kink right so that you are on the RHS, turn in early for the fast left. I dont lift for this, but beware of target fixation as the armco is close to the black stuff. Next is a left right flick before HA. Turn in at the 3 curbstone from the end and look for the dot on the left turn, hit the apex of the right and let the car drift out to the left.

Very late apex for HA winding on the lock slightly and letting the car drift out to the left for the short run to the next right left right. Late apex the right and run along the RHS until you turn in by the service entrance.

run over the curbs of the left and right dabbing the brakes to settle the car slightly between the two.

Run along the LHS and clip the apex of the right hander drifting right out to the left to find a hidden set of curb stones. Move over 3/4 to the Right and turn in to the down hill left hander treating it as a constant radius. This will create 2 apexes but have you on the left for b1. show boat here as much as possible

late apex b2 and use the rumble strip and not the gravel trap on the left getting over to the rhs for the sharp left hander going into a right hander over a crest, start shallow in the left hander, as the camber is initially against you and as the corner tightens up so do you. once over the crest head towards the 169 sign as this is your turn in point. Run straight now, breaking slightly before the jump. The double right hander is another constant radius at the dot turn to the left go over the crest get to the RHS. At the end of the rumble strip turn in to the left hander, becareful as the car goes light and slightly twists, down to the bottom of the hill turn round to the right and head straight over the next crest. This one is straight on and you should be doing about 120mph minuimum here

Becareful of the grass on the left there is a tendancy to hit it. Head for what used to be a tree in the distance, now a pole or three, there is a dot on the LHS to turn in, camber is great so carry a shed load of speed through it.

Last corner before mini karasell, turn in late at the dot, and run out to the curbing. turn in late into the mini karasell as I find it is better to come in over the change of tarmac and out just on tarmac than unsettle the car by coming out over the change in tarmac.

(sorry about my speeling!! )

Have you thought about buying a PS2 and getting GT4? they say that the ring is only out on the game by 15mm but the dips and rises are a bit more aggresive in real life!!
