For those of you that track regularly i.e. 1 - 2 times a month, do you use track day insurance?

Cheers,

Rob

Only if I go to one of the Max Puppet events at Castle Combe or to Trax at Silverstone.

Never had the need on proper track days, also the insurance does not cover mechanical failure/damage, so if your engine blows up when you over-rev you will not get a penny!

No.

I found out that NU cover you for training days (ie if you have an instructor in the car) and when my idiotic ex partner pranged the CSL at Combe causing £7k worth of damage they paid!!!!!

Only once though.

No.

That for me was part of the rationale of having a car that was specifically track focused that I didn't have to rely on to get around (or home).

I have never taken track insurance out, but after Oulton Park the other weekend I do think it is a very good idea.
I didnt spin once or loose control the whole day BUT
there was plenty of people in other cars trying to destroy my steed.
I just missed a spinning Chim in the morning, A Tuscan destroyed itself in the pit-wall with me right behind trying desperately to avoid him and his flying bonnet! And not to finish there, a Cerbera spun right in front of me towards the end of the day!
It was a fantastic day but I did feel very lucky to be driving home!

Likewise - some details of this would be useful even with a £3.5K excess.

However, I wonder if actually NOT having cover increases driving standards whilst on track. I think it could do.

Non insured drivers on our roads though should see an automatic crushing of their cars - possibly before they've had time to get out.

Interesting because that's a good price. I've typicaly been quoted twice as much for half that value cover.

I'm in the uninsured camp for trackdays. For me the numbers don't add up. Even after 2 accidents I'm still well ahead.

If you take into account the value of the salvage if the car id declared a write off and the amount of excess applicable the premiums look less competitive and after a number of trackdays the amount paid out in premiums easily covers the repair costs of a spill.

I'm with Bickley Insurance services who are brokers for NU. Loads of GT3 and 911 RS owners are with them.

I pay £1100 basic per year for fully comp on my 993 RS. I pay and extra £100 for the engine mods and an extra £100 to protect my NCB, making a grand total of £1300 per year.

I then pay £79 extra per track day. I have heard a rumour that this is going up to £109 per event, they are coming back to me. Now I will go on at least 13 track days this year, so that's about a grand extra for track day cover or maybe £1300 if they put their prices up. I think that this is reasonable value. I can't remember what the track day excess is mind you, but it isn't daft.

The good thing about Bickley's cover for track days is that it is very comprehensive whereas some other companies don't cover some kind of accidents.

They specifically exclude the Ring though (Spa is OK!!). I am going on a public day at the Ring in a couple of weeks and I am hoping that I am OK for this because on open days it is a public toll road. Bickley said I might be OK, that's the most they would say. However, for closed track days at the Ring, eg RMA days, you definitely aren't covered.

You need to do the sums. My car is worth over 40 grand, so for me it is probably worth getting insured on track days. For a car worth 10 grand it isn't. Cars worth about 20 grand.......that's a difficult one. What the TVR worth would you say?

It's with Footman James (0845 330 1662), but I also insure my car with them so may be getting a better rate.

I have only done a couple so far but my normal car insurance is with Greenlight so they cover me for £85 per track day with £700 excess.

I went with Competition Car Insurance the first time and it was £130 with £1500 excess. Morris were a fraction cheaper though.

My ex and his mate crashed his car at Oulton Park earlier this year with £3800 of damage and he wasn't insured...
