Anyone used trackday insurance here before?

I’m thinking of doing a day at blyton park as I did it recently in my mates car. I’m going in my car this time but I’d like to insure it.

Where have people got decent quotes from?

Anyone had to use it? What was the experience like?

I’m trying to minimise my risk by picking a track with little to hit and my car is low powered and front wheel drive so not expecting any problems but then again who does!

not always about driver error. sometimes it's about the unknown... brake failure, another car hitting you, something critical failing.

when i looked around, i found ad-hoc insurance for £200-250 with around £1300 excess. seemed to be the going rate.
i asked around on an owners club and they recommended A-plan which i'm currently with. afaik track cover is only supplied with road insurance through them, but they charged £250 for 5 trackdays/yr and £1100 excess. worked out at £50/trackday if you take all 5.

Moris kept coming up in a lot of searches (https://trackday.moris.co.uk/) but they weren't giving quotes to anyone at the time i was looking.

so far, I've had no claims regardless of road or track so cant comment on claim experience.

read the small print. iirc Aplan and Moris both exclude things like kerb wheel damage or engine&gearbox failures. seems to be common practice so your more insuring for bodywork ..

Moris came back with a better quote so thanks for that. It includes the cover I need, I’m waiting for A plan to get back to me but it’s worth looking into as my normal insurance needs renewing in the next month.

I did need to use my track insurance a few years ago as I wrote off my Elise at Spa...

I was insured through insuremytrackday which was underwritten by Hiscox. I paid £160 for the day at Spa with a 10% excess.

They paid out in full to the agreed insurance valuation less the 10% excess, the only fly in the ointment in an otherwise faultless process was that I didn't get a chance to buy the car back mainly as I prevaricated too much.

The only thing to remember is to get any forms that require track official's signatures completed at the time - I didn't but the TDO sorted this for me (RMA), others might not be so accommodating!

Interestingly, the salvage guy who picked up the damaged car, said he would let me have first refusal if he rebuilt the car, which he did, but by then I had headed off down a different track car route.

So - track insurance works and is well worth the money, although saying that I don't insure my MINI!

I'm also insured through A-plan on the same basis. Definitely worth it if you make track days a habbit.

I used moris in the end. I tried lots of other places but they seemed to make it hard work to even get a quote. A Plan wanted £150 for the same cover moris we’re offering for £80.

I didn’t need it the end, had a great day at Blyton. https://youtu.be/xQenecYFjEI

£80 isn’t bad at all - looking at cover for Rockingham next month, looking at ~£190 with a £3k excess! (£25k car value)

I insure my Elise with REIS - annual policy is £275 ish with 5 trackdays, 10% excess on track.

Good service to date, although not had to use the claims dept. Yet...

To those reading this, but not commenting, do be aware of the meaning of “10% excess”.
This is 10% of the value of the car, NOT 10% of the claim..

So if you bend all the front right suspension etc on an Ariel Atom at Cadwell Park, if we assume £2,000 to repair and a £25,000 car value, your excess will be more than the claim and you will get nowt.

Just bought some from Keith Micheals (who use highway). Renault Clio 200, 2009, £6k value, braided hoses and exhaust as mods on a full day at Mallory. Cost £40 with a 10% excess.

Can't complain really.

Hello, I am just about to book my first track day and am starting off by using my e46 325ti which is not worth much, is the only risk to me of not having track insurance that my own car is written off?

^ Yes

Its worth considering roadcar policies that include trackday cover. - One off day coverage seems very expensive

I have previously used 'Competition Car Insurance', whom cover you for 6 trackdays a year - I am now with 'Mannings', whom give me unlimited trackdays, their quote for road use, plus unlimited t/days was also cheaper than anything on the comparison sites for just road.

As mentioned above excess is 10%

Thanks for that I'll give them a call, just had the thought that while the car is of no value i should probably put some value on myself (many wouldn't) does the cover give you anything for medical/injury if you have a major crash?

Another “be aware” guys.

If you have a claim on track day insurance, it is a claim.
So when you go to renew your road car insurance, you must declare it.
That’s what my insurer told me.
And don’t forget, all claims end up being registered on the CUE database, so will come back to bite you if you don’t declare.

The best advice is to use something you can afford to write off for track days, and don’t insure it. Not that I have followed that advice myself.

No, it only covers your car and nothing else. Not you, not someone else, not their car.

You are not liable for any other car you hit (having said which 97% of accidents are solo affairs and involve barriers or rolling) and are only liable for armco damage at the Nurburgring as far as I am aware, not uk tracks.

Generally it is well understood by all that you are participating at your own risk, so claims against others don’t happen. But if you had a Vettel-esqe road rage incident that went way beyond normal track day behaviour, I cannot see why a claim in a court of law would be excluded.
