Hi guy and girls, help needed please.

I'm looking to by a car purposely for track use only but need help with how to legally transport it to and from track.

Can you use a dolly or A frame?

All ideas welcome.

Thanks.

Thanks

So the only option is to tax, mot and insure the car?

Mine's taxed, MOTd and insured so gets driven there and back. Tools, jack etc fit in the boot with one of those clip together garden boxes to shove it all in when I get there.

So what's the laws about towing?

I have a long wheels Base van 3 and a half tone.

It has 1545 load capacity so just wondering if that would be enough in your experience?

If you passed your test after 1997 you can’t tow more than 750kg behind a 3.5T IIRC.

Hmm

It all seem very difficult. .

So the best way really would be to run it as a normal car but just not use it as my daily ride?

I've read somewhere that you can do a trailer test??

Post above in UK at least is incorrect, you can use a proper A Frame set up, as you see with big camper vans with usually a smart car behind.

However, car would have to be fully road legal as if it were a trailer if it's on the road, under 75Okg without brakes or with an aftermarket brake set up if it's over, plus lights etc etc.

Of course trailer better as no need for road legal track car & it can be on slicks etc, but as to the original question, If used correctly an A Frame is legal

Dollies however- recovery only

Currently the situation is under review so may change.

I tow a 1350kg legally behind a 5-series estate. The trailer has a 1000kg payload. I had a Caterham but presumably a small, light sports car or hatchback would be doable.
