Hi all,

I have a track car which has a full set of slicks, and a full set of race wets, but nothing for those middle ground days when its damp, or on/off raining.

So I want to get a set of intermediate tyres, and I’m guessing that the current line of road car-trackday tyres would be a good choice.

My options are-

Federal RSR- £90
NS2R WR180- £95.90
AD08R- £135
Nankang AR1 (practically slick)- £160
Kumho V90A £166
Toyo R888- £173

My owners club rates the Federals for track use, so being as they are the cheapest, and I don’t expect them to see a great deal of use, I’m tempted.

I know tyres are a subjective view, but anyone agree/disagree?

Thanks

Matt

Firstly, the car, your level and the tracks you use may help but generically here is my 2p.

Cr@p have tried them on an e36 328.
Really rate them have had them on an R53 & e36 328.,
Haven't tried them,
Haven't tried them,
Haven't tried them,
Not worth the money & no better than the NS2R have tried them on my previous e36 325.

Just to throw another tyre into the mix.

The Toyo R1R is very good in damp/wet conditions.

I was very surprised by their performance.

The only other tyre i've used in the list, is the AD08R. They used to be my only tyre for around 2 years and got on well with them in all conditions.

I would say the Toyo R1R is better in the damp/wet than the AD08R, but they would soon melt if used heavily in the dry.

Lol stuff lugging three sets of wheels about for trackdays, just bosh a set of Yokohama or Toyo semi slicks on there and be done with it (all conditions)

TBH I am in between the 2 camps there.

I drive on top quality road tyres & they are my wet set up, I take a set of NS2Rs on spare wheels with me for the dry.

I'm the same.

Drive to track on R1R's and Dunlop DZ03G for the dry.

Thanks for all replies.

With the ns2r have you used the wr180 compound when comparing to the 595rsr?

I've used the wr120 ns2rs before but not the wr180 compound. I've also used the ad08r to with good results, but at £150 more for a third set of tyres, I'm tempted with the nankangs

Thanks
Matt

I have only tried the 180s, and in fact on the same day as the 595s on my e36, the NS2Rs were massively superior.

I've got E BMWs old ns2s well his old car in fact, was really impressed with em in wet, as new tread tho & tbh was pretty impressed with em when it dried too. Good tyre for the dosh.

I’ve had 595s on my 944T and now have NS2Rs, they’re far superior in damp/wet conditions.
