First UK track day information
Discussion
I will be doing a track day at Brands Hatch in May but im unsure on the Noise the car is making .
The car is a MR2 Mk3 roadster .
The car has a Cobra quad exhaust system , 100 cell sports cat , toyo sports de cat manifold so does anyone know what noise level I will be at as the car does not sound that loud .
Brands hatch have a limit of 105Dba .
Also I only have an open face helmet so do I need a full face helmet as I have been reading you do .
Regards

I don't know how accurate they are but you can download sound meter apps for your phone. The car is a MR2 Mk3 roadster .

Full Face with Visor
In so many ways this is the perfect choice.
It is acceptable in any Trackday scenario giving the best all round protection.
Open Face
Suitable for use in TinTop or Hardtop style cars only.
NB. Open Face helmets even with eye protection (goggles, glasses etc) are no longer permitted at most circuits in Open Top or Soft Top cars (with a windscreen or not).
I'd ring/email and ask regarding the helmet tbh.
For the noise, I doubt you'll be near 105 (I mean, that is deafeningly loud. Mine is 100 and it makes your ears ring after a drive.). But if you are unsure, spend the 9 quid on one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Sound-Level-Digital... and you can test it yourself at home.
Yes they're cheap, but I've done a lot of tests on my car and they've always come out spot on with the trackday / Vosa calibrated ones, so they're pretty good. The phone apps don't handle noise around the 100db level very well, because the mikes aren't up to it, or so I hear.

You have to have a full face helmet unless you've a tin roof. I have an MR2 Mk2 T-Bar. I have to wear a full face helmet if I take the glass panels out. You can hire a helmet at the track for £10.
If you're local to Brands you can take your car to any track day and they'll noise test it. There's no charge.
Are you going on 3rd May? I'm booked on.

MSV's helmets are all pretty new, and they do supply a condom to put over your head first before putting the helmet on.
105dB is the noise level of a decatted TVR Chimaera - ie pretty loud. But any track will do you a noise test, especially if you toddle along at about 10 am on the morning of any track day. Best to phone first.
If you get a noise meter of your own, hold it half a meter from the tail pipe, at an angle that is 45 degrees upwards and outwards, and rev the car to 3/4 of max revs. At this point you will realise you need to phone a friend to come and help.

Ok I will give this a try but should be well under .105dB is the noise level of a decatted TVR Chimaera - ie pretty loud. But any track will do you a noise test, especially if you toddle along at about 10 am on the morning of any track day. Best to phone first.

Thruxton is 90 dB so will need to check for this .
