A few months ago I posted a write up from Brands Hatch and mentioned I was off to Silverstone the next day. Well I just realised I didn't follow up with a post, so...

I went to Silverstone with the Caterham! I love the place to bits - so much history, so many corners, such a huge challenge. The location of my first track day in my old Honda in '06 too, and the location of my first spin. In the Honda. At turn one. On lap one. Needless to say, I learned quickly.

This particular November day I attended was run by Circuit Days who did a great job as usual. My only criticisms would be the quantity of cars on circuit and the number of red flags, but I also realise it was a cheap day so it was to be expected to an extent. Everyone seemed to have a good time though - me included.

The car ran well as usual but I had to stop after lunch to fit a make-shift engine oil catch tank, and clean a lot of oil from the engine bay. Not quite what I had planned. I then managed to lose a front wing through a fatigue failure. It wasn't looking to be my day, particularly as I struggled to get a clear lap. I managed to get some pointers from a coach who spotted some easy wins after we looked through some of my data, and applying his advice saw immediate results.

I finished up the day setting a 2:27s lap which was still hampered by traffic and should've been a 2:26s, but c'est la vie - next time. Huge fun and can't wait to go back and go quicker!

I put together another little video with some slightly more in-depth commentary this time trying to explain how I approached the lap and what I'll be doing differently next time.

Cheers!
