I did a carlimits activity day a couple of weeks ago - the sort of thing where you hoon around cones in an open space, one at a time. I've done at least half a dozen of them before and they're great fun. I really haven't found anywhere else where you can really drive the nuts off your car and skid it about in all sorts of shapes and really test the handling of your car at and over the limits.

However, the last time was really, really busy. Each car only got four runs at each of the three circuits, meaning only 12 runs the entire day and, as I was sharing the car with my wife, we only really got two goes at each course, which is a bit pants. When I've been before you lost count of how many runs you had, and you pretty much drove until you'd had enough.

So, is there anywhere else where you can do this sort of thing? Preferably in the South. I'm not talking about Drift What Ya Brung, that's a different thing entirely - I'm more interested in driving to the clock. Is there anywhere that does American style autocross competitions? The only ones I've found in the UK seem to be run on grass and look a bit feeble.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Look up Autosolo. They're generally on tarmac but yes, compared to the American ones they are slower and tighter.

Very interesting - I had no idea the general public were allowed anywhere near the Millbrook proving ground and alpine course. However, those courses cost as much as I would spend on an entire car!

Thanks for the suggestion - a quick google suggests the Sevenoaks and District motor club do this sort of thing, and look well-organised.

This looks hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WN8_PyKWiw

Maidstone & Mid Kent also seem to be doing more tarmac autosolos than when I last looked.

Thanks for the tip!

Yes we do autosolo with Sevenoaks and District, great events. Our last one at the end of November at Brsnds Hatch, using the rally stage and the liwer paddock, against the click for £60. Only a few places left! You will love it
